Finished the sixth book by Diana Galbaldon and have to admit that I don't know what I am going to do at 3:00 in the morning now.  I have a habit of only sleeping about 5-6 hours and when I wake up I know I will not be going back to sleep so I get up and read for a couple of hours, then go back to bed and get a couple hours more of sleep.  Diana's books have been my night-time companions all year.

Thanks, Carla, for the suggestion of another author - Deborah Harkness.  When I take the last Galbaldon book back to the library, I will get the books by Harkness.  I love time travel and historical fiction, so these sound perfect to me.  BTW, I read my first Galbaldon book on my iPad, but then started getting them at the library.  When the first one was 100 chapters and I saw it was 700 pages, I just found library books worked better for me.  I still get lost sometimes on my iPad and was spending way too much time looking for my place in the book.  Shorter books work much better for me.

Anybody else Diana Galbaldon fans?  I thought we should have a new discussion because the What are you reading now? discussion was getting pretty long.

Lynda, glad you enjoyed Diana's books. I always feel like I have a good friend I get to catch up with when her new books come out. Sadly, you have to wait 3 plus years for the next book:) BUT...her next one is supposedly coming soon. Yes, they are VERY long.

iPad hint.... I assume you bookmark your page before you close your iPad. If you do... go to the upper left and hit the book icon. Then My notes and marks. Waala That brings you to all your bookmarks!! I just learned this with this last book I read!! There are also some cool things I just discovered... go to the same book icon, go to book extras and it gives you memorable quotes from the book!!  There was a quote I wanted to remember and I looked and looked for it. Then I went to this section and ...there it was!!!

I just finished Kate Morton the Distant Hours. Her books are very english in writing style. I've read a few of her books and I know she just came out with a new one.

Re:  iPad, yes I do bookmark but then all the bookmarks come up and it is 100 chapters.  Still can't find my place. But, I have just been practicing on my new Galaxy tablet, so I may try books on that also.  I guess I am just old fashioned - like the hardcopy book and one bookmark that moves through the book with me.  Sigh.

Yep, I will be in line to get the new book when it comes out.   I love Diana's style and the time travel really appeals to my sense of adventure.  And then Jamie and Claire are such great characters.  Really starting to like Brianna and Roger and their family too.

Tell me more about Kate Morton. Not crazy about the English writing style.  Deborah Harkness sounds like my kind of author, and apparently some aspect of time travel also.

Carla, I got started with Deborah Harkness, A Discovery of Witches, and love it.  I wasn't to sure about a book about daemons, witches, and vampires, but it is great.  I will get her other book when I finish with this one.  Thanks for the great suggestions.

Glad you are enjoying it. You will enjoy the other two also

I was convinced after reading this that my son is a daemon.  He didn't like that suggestion much, but I told him to read the books.

lol..you're funny!!!

Yes! I have read only the first 2 so far, but I really liked them!  I will have to keep reading.  The length of them is very daunting to me.;)  I have also have read 2 of Kate Morton's books, and LOVED them!!  Check out either The Forgotten Garden or the Secret Keeper, you will love them!

And Deborah Harkness!  Her books were wonderful also.  I am guessing you are talking about the Diana Galbaldon books.  Both authors are fantastic.  I will check out Kate's books.  Right now I am reading Lee Child - the Reacher series, but I prefer the feminine side of literature.

Yes, sorry, I was talking about Diana Galbaldon's Outlander series.  I will have to look into Deborah Harkness, historical fiction is my fave!

Sara, You might also take a look at Dan Koontz.  His old book "Whispers" is one of my all-time favorites.  It is about a golden retriever (his favorite dogs) who has been given artificial intelligence.  Love it!

I have every book Dean Koontz has ever written - my favorite is Dark Rivers of the Heart (of course there is a dog in this story as well)  I think Watchers is the book you are speaking of (A.I. in the dog, Einstein) as Whispers is NOT about a smart dog. LOL

Sara, I have the Secret Keeper on my Kindle Wish List. Can't wait to read it.

Keep going on Diana's books. She and her characters become old friends. Her books are my all time favorites but I have to tell you Deborah Harkness is right up there too!!!

Enjoy
