Hi Fellow Brits, Has anyone tried the Thornit ear powder? Flying back again so and thought this might be a good thing to pick up. wiggins having problems with his ears. Any other suggestions for things I can get in local pet stores over in u.k. To bring back. Thanks

We are living parallel lives with our doodles :-) I was bragging to my husband about Wiggins coming when called...tried to show him and Wiggins just got up and walked away to sniff a bush :-( We also have the "zommies" going on when we try and do any gardening, with the result of several broken bushes and rose bushes :-( I have started today on the "nothing is free" approach and I am making him sit, lay or leave it for everything and hoping we get some respect soon :-)
My husband is a die hard Plymouth Argyle supporter, as he was a ball boy there in his youth :-) He gets up at 4:30 am every Saturday morning of the football season to watch the English games on t.v. While listening to Radio Devon for the Argyle commentary. My grandsons 5 and 3 are Man United
fans:-) and in particular Van Persey fans :-)

Hope to hear Wookie is behaving in the near future :-)

You are right. The trick to successful training is definitely the treats. Wiggins sounds far more mature than our crazy Wookie. She may have finished at puppy school but Wookie is well and truly in the doodle doghouse. We took her for a walk, let her off her lead - and then realised we had both forgotten to bring along her treats. Without her edible rewards, her recall was, well, zero!

She sat in a big patch of thick mud and then ran around like a headless chicken - and refused all our efforts to encourage her to come back. She was like something possessed. She reminded me of our middle daughter when she was a stroppy teenager. We called her, called her some more - and she continued to ignore us while whizzing around in the mud. Nightmare!

Eventually, our five year old caught her and then we had to take her to a nearby river to wash the mud off.

I live in a football-crazy house. Yesterday, I had to endure Brentford v Yeovil on the telly. My little one's a Chelsea fan, while my husband is Exeter City through and through. Son-in-law is Man Utd! Well, at least we have a couple of football-free weeks before the pre-season friendlies start! x

Hi Nikki, I agree these are smart dogs. We are in serious training mode, and as long as we have a treat in hand, obedience training is working. Our troubles start when no treat is offered......little obedience :-(
Thought of you today. My husband is sitting watching the last football game of the season and is very depressed :-) I am enjoying the thought of more help in the garden :-) Hope you and yours are doing well, love to Wookie.

Brilliant news about Wiggins' tummy! I bet you are relieved. Glad you had a great time here in the UK. Good luck with the obedience... Wookie graduated from puppy school last week. It was good fun and she learnt loads of stuff, including how to 'leave it' until we say she can eat any food! I truly thought that would be impossible when the lady explained what was expected but Wookie picked it up really quickly. I think doodles are the cleverest (and most wonderful!) dogs in the world! :)

Just returned from our flying visit to the u.k. The weather was perfect (although I have heard it has since changed :-) ) Wiggins did really well on his vacation with no tummy issues....yeah!!!! Moving forward with the Limited ingredient food and fingers crossed he continues to flourish. Now time to really start on the obedience stuff!

Oh my, poor . We are still trying to get a handle on it all. Wiggins is on a limited ingredient food and does fine (although I worry because it is low on protien) as soon as I introduced any "normal" but grain free food we start the problems all over again. My husband calls him the million dollar dog :-) but honestly the money doesn't even add up to our worry about him. We are not giving any treats other than his kibble for training. That really is why I joined this Doodlekisses group, hoping for some advice. I am a bit nervous about getting into any disscussions with these girls as they all seem to have PHD's in this or that :-) keeping our fingers crossed for our trip over to Southampton for our nieces wedding that Wiggins will be okay. Looking forward to keeping in touch. Hugs to Wookie (love the name)

Ahh, the infamous doodle upset tummy!

Wookie is a springerdoodle, and one month younger than Wiggins (she was born Sept 1, 2012).

She has suffered terribly bouts of upset stomach, has been diagnosed with colitis by the vet and downed loads on medicines to calm her tummy. We were changing foods, offering plain boiled rice etc and then we worked out the cause... cheese. 

Throughout all of this the one constant was her wolfing down cheese as training treats. Within one day of stopping the cheese, she was fine. Touch wood, she's been fine since.

I've since learned that dogs do not have a certain enzime in their gut that digests lactose, so many dogs are lactose intolerant.

Sending Wiggins our doodle best wishes that his tummy issues clear up too :)

My husband lived in Whitley many many years ago. We know Honicknowle well.
Sisters and brother in laws live in Torquay now, and I agree it is lovely.
We lived for 30 years in Danville in the east bay. Big city San Francisco.
Just moved to Livermore and both children, husband and wife and grandchildren are now all in one town......lovely for Nanny time :-)
Hopefully Wiggins will do well. He is one of "those" doodles with stomach issues :-) Happy Days

What a small world! We are currently in Newton Abbot but we lived for years near Tavistock and I worked in Plymouth (Sunday Independent at Honicknowle) for 20-plus years. My brother lives on the site of the former Manadon Navy College (now housing). I now work in Torquay, which is lovely. 

Where is CA are you? We holidayed there (LA, San Diego, Palm Springs, Vegas, Death Valley) last summer - wish we could live there too but, sadly, not to be. My husband's job is only a federal one in the States, and can only be done by a citizen :( We get to visit often though because my sister is in KS.

Try not to fret too much about Wiggins. He will be fine and enjoy his doodle 'holiday' too. Hope the weather improves for you, it's rubbish at the moment!
