Our 4 month old chocolate female which started out a dark chocolate is now a bright cinnamon. Her mother went through a "red" stage but was older and not as bright. She is a really pretty color but who knows what color she will end up being. Her mother is a silvery milk chocolate now. Chocolates are so interesting. One of Cocoa's pups was born a beautiful milk chocolate and will become Parchment like Cocoa's father.

It is so much fun to watch the changes with puppies (just like with your children). Our Hondo (named for his color like Hondurus Mahagony when he was a pup) was quite bleached out with a dark area on his back. We just gave him a haircut and he is dark brown underneath. Their colors change with age and exposure to sunlight. This is more so with chocolates, but the blacks get gray and white in their coats also. What happens with the light doodles?
our Nico just turned 9 months old and after having shaved him down once (winter matting), his hair grew back with a line of wirey white and black hair along his back, interspersed with his chocolate color. it was wild! He also seems to have gotten curlier after the shaving. pretty cool! Fits his personality. :)
Hmmm. I wonder if Hondo will be curlier. He has never been shaved down before. He never has had a problem with matting, but he has had many color changes. His undercoat is quite brown but the long hair had golden tips (that is why I wanted to try weaving it).
