I have a mini labradoodle and am wondering how the puppy coat changes to the adult in color and texture? My Yogi has a fleece coat that is an apricot cream. Just wondering what to expect. Would appreciate any input.
My super, soft, fleece coated F1b is still gorgeous but has a very rough patch straight down her back that's very wirey and just completely different. It seemed to happen overnight. The rest of her is butter soft. My Hazel's coloring did not change much...apricot ears that fade to cream.
Darwin's coat is going through the coat change, and he has developed a coarser strip down his back, that is slightly darker than the rest of him. It still feels pretty soft to the touch, just not as much as the rest of him.
Simon is an 11 month old, cream/apricot multi-gen Australian Labradoodle. His coat is spiral fleece. His baby coat did not have the spirals, but as they began to show up closer to the root, his hair felt more cottony soft instead of baby cloud soft. His coat is also more dense now. Even though he's been brushed/combed at least every other day, he started to mat - literally overnight. Simon's ears are still apricot and he has touches of apricot in his tail and on his hocks. After I had his coat cut down last weekend, he also has a darker cream/light apricot "stripe" down his back and across his shoulders. The texture doesn't feel any different, though. I understand this "stripe" will not be evident as his hair grows back out. :-)
I have 2 friends with mini-Australian Labradoodles and their coat changes didn't start until 14-16 months. :-)
My Kachi developed the same coarse, slightly darker, strip down his back, sometime around 8 -10 months old (I think!). It went away though! His coat has lightened as he has aged, and remains very soft. We've also noticed that when he gets wet, his adult coat gets curlier than his puppy coat did.
