Board and Train in the Dallas Area.

My doodle Jaxson is 9 months now and he is in desperate need of some extra training. I want to get him some obedience training and I'd like to do a board and train in the area. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a board and train that uses positive enforcement. I don't want to send him anywhere that does shock collars. I don't like the idea of that.

Safari Doodles (the breeder in McKinney) offers board and train.  I've been considering the same thing, and people seem to say good things about them.  There's a "Texas Doodles" Facebook page where you might be able to get some additional recommendations.

I will begin by saying that any amount of training will fall by the wayside after time if it is not perpetuated by the dogs parents. We worked with Hilton Butler and left Paisley with him for four weeks and wow did it make all the difference. His background is in training military and police dogs and he gets how dogs operate and now works mostly with pets.

About e-collars once known as shock collars I refused to even read about them until I met Hilton. He asked if I had ever stuck a 9-volt battery to the end of my tongue to test it-of course I had and he said it was no more than that. I then tried it on my hand at both the bottom level and top level that would be used and it was almost unnoticeable.

It turns out when puppies are learning from mom and others she nips at the back of their neck to correct and or interrupt their action. The collar does no more than this-period. It interrupts their focus/action that needs to be shifted without pain and along with positive reenforcement is extremely effective.

I totally get why one would be against them and turns out they are much more effective than a choke or pinch collar could ever be. Dogs are animals not humans and learn differently then we do. While I respect whatever methods folks choose for their animals and children what I had made up about the E-collars was so wrong I was embarrassed and the collar is only temporary and may be used for reinforcement or to further training.
