I apologize for the quality of these photos. Jack's groomer made this ornament for him (really for me). It's clear glass and has a lock of his hair inside it, and is painted with his name, the year, a Xmas tree, some pawprints, and some snow. I think even I could make this. My daughter thinks it's kind of creepy, but I'm not sure. I kind of like it, even though we don't have a tree.

I think it's a great idea. And tell your daughter it would only be creepy if were a lock of a different dog's hair, or possibly the groomer's hair. But JD's hair, not creepy.
Your reply made me laugh out loud, Leslie! And I agree. :)
How thoughtful. How Beautiful. Leave it up all year. <---tell your daughter I said so. LOL.
I may make one myself
I love it. I think it is great :) I get the creepy comment from your daughter, but heck we are all crazy....
You know, I'm thinking this would make a great "Baby's 1st Haircut" keepsake, too!
Exactly what I was thinking. I actually have a bunch of my first grandson's red hair. His mother could care less about saving or charting "firsts" but since I was at the first haircut I collected some for myself. He is now 6 1/2. Though I don't have hair from the other two boys so it might cause jealousy if I only made one ornament. I even have my 35 and 32 year old kid's hair!!!!! Now that I think of it, I have Gracie Doodle's first curl to be cut off. I think I will make her an ornament. I have a tooth too! So would that be too creepy? ha ha
Well, in January you could collect everbody's hair!
I love the idea of a keepsake with a lock of hair, rather "old fashioned", kinda like me. : ) !
I think it was very thoughtful of the groomer. For what it is, I may not know what to think of it, but for the intention, it is very nice. I wonder if the texture and color of hair changes overtime? Like 2010 hair is much different from 2005 hair? If so, then it may be interesting to see how it changes over the years....?
Just noticed this since I still don't get notices about my own groups' discussions. Sorry to be dense but how do you make it? Do you take a clear ornament, open it and then put it back together again.Anyway, I don't think this is for me but I do have the dogs baby teeth and a lock of hair from Rex, the poodle somewhere. Keeping a lock of hair, just as is so to speak, seems OK.
The little metal "cap" on the top comes off; it's held in place with flexible prongs that extend down into the ball itself. The opening is really small, so hair or something soft could be pushed in, but not anything larger. I was thinking it would be a cute "doggy" ornament filled with milkbones or something like that, but they wouldn't fit through the opening.
