TREAT From Lynne NJ:
Liva Drops

4 cups quick oats
1 cup cooked and chopped beef or calves liver
1/4 cup beef broth
4 large eggs

1. Preheat over to 350 degrees
2. Mix everything together
3. Use rounded teaspoon and make round balls onto greased cookie sheet
4. Bake 10-15 minutes until golden brown
5. Let cool and store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Make a double batch because they will go crazy over these.

TREAT From Joy Williams:
This is one our girls really love...
Small jar of fruit baby food - I use banana and strawberries
2 small containers of vanilla low fat yogurt.
Mix together and freeze in ice tray.
Just tried the Liver Drops and they all LOVE them. They are much lighter than I thought they would be.
I make these Liva Treats all the time. I've made them with chicken too. I just roll out the stuff on parchment paper and bake - when they come out of oven I take a big knife and cut through them in tiny squares. When cool I brake apart. These are the best training treats ever.
Thanks Fergie, I am glad you like them. They are almost a staple in my house.
I've made the LIVA treats many times. I had bought the liver yesterday at the grocery store. I work at a nice supper club and we do have liver on our menu which many people love. (YUCK) When people don't eat it all I always box it up and bring it home. That's usually where I get my Liver from but I didn't have any this time so I bought it raw. Anyway, usually the liver comes to me already cooked and I throw all that stuff in the food processor and in seconds I've got my treats ready to go in oven.

This morning at 5:30 a.m. I quickly wanted to make these for my friend who just got a new puppy so in the food processor goes all the ingredients - one thing though - I forgot to cook the liver first. Hadn't had my coffee.

FYI - this does work. I couldn't figure out why it was so runny though so I added about a cup of whole wheat flour to stiffen it up. dropped it onto parchment paper and made my cookies.

Thanks, Fergie, I usually cook it first, too. These look great. I usually roll them into balls and bake. One time I rolled them out and used a bone cookie cutter. But that was too much work. The balls are easy and quick. Yours look like oatmeal cookies and I'd say yum if it weren't liver (yuck) but the doggies are thinking YUMMY.
oh my goodness! i just made oatmeal cookies (the "people" version) and they looked just like these! hahaha ~ is that good or bad? LOL I can't wait to try this version though, I'm sure Max will just freak out when he eats them....he goes crazy over cold-cuts, so I'm sure these will just blow his mind..yay!
How long are the liva drops good for? If stored? I want to try these when pup arrives :D
You can freeze them and they last awhile. Mine don't get to stays long because they are eaten too quickly. But if frozen, they should last a month or more.
do you put the cooked beef in a food processor? how small does it need to be before you mix it with the other ingredients?
The "cooked beef" is part of "cooked beef or calves' liver", lol...meaning that you can use either beef liver or calves' liver, but not just beef. And it does go into the food processor.
LOL! Just in time too--I was going to make them within the hour. haha. I will go back to the store. How long do you leave it in the food processor? I'm really excited about this recipe! I think Timbow will love it!
