Noah and Sherlock LOVE rolling on dead worms. Sherlock is a very clean dog, minus this disgusting habit. Noah loves to get dirty, so I'm not surprised he does this. They both search through the grass trying to find an almost dead worm or slug. They will scratch at the grass to get to the good stuff and then the rolling commences. They will actually roll on top of each other to push each other out of the way to get to the worm. I really shouldn't let them do this because they stink afterwards and I end up cutting the worms and yellow slime out of their fur, but they look like they are in dog utopia when they are rolling on worms. So this is their one guilty pleasure in which I let them indulge.
Boy, that is quite a frenzy they go into. No worms for Gracie Doodle but I am afraid that she is big on duck poop. When we walk in the park along the bay if there are any dead shell fish or duck poop she ducks down her head and dives into a roll. I try to anticipate this happening by her body language and head her off before she does the tuck and roll. This Doodle gets lots of baths!! Sherlock and Noah look like they are totally in heaven!
EWWWWW!!!!! Allie does this and it drives me CRAZY!!!! They always get stuck to her ear and I have to pull them off while screaming with disgust!!!! GROSS.
Wrigley doesn't roll on worms, but my dachshund Rootie not only rolls on dead worms but anything that's dead! It's awful!!! She rolls exactly like your guys in the video. If there happens to be a dead frog or anything else that has baked in the sun and has that awful, nasty smell, Rootie rolls in it! I never smell it or see it until she's rolling in it either! Once she rolled in something and it took literally 3 baths to get the smell off of her. She's such a clean dog otherwise. I do NOT understand this habit!
this is the one yucky habit that Beau has too! And he does all the things (other than eating the worms, thank goodness!) that you have all described. Head down first, then the whole body, and he's like in heaven, while I stand there in horror and scream at him! LOL And Frannie, mine also takes this very seriously, like he got a mandate to do this, or else, from somewhere very important.
DISGUSTING! but i have to say remnisent of what my beagle/corgi - calamity jane used to do when left to her own devices, find something stinky to roll in then continue on...after she came to live with me (she lived with my family for 10 yrs since she was a puppy but then she got into too much trouble - another story, lol) i started giving it some thought the corgis are "herders" but the beagles are "hunters" so i figured she was doing it to mask her scent for "hunting" & of course it just felt good to roll around on your back with your legs in the air...lol!
question..do they make noises when they are doing this? because when morgan is doing his rolling around (not in disgusting stuff thank goodness!!) he's making alot of noises & cracking me up, he's also stretching his hind legs like a yoga move.
outside he does like the bloody pampas grass which lines my backyard & rubs all the way down (making noises too) then a kind of hop/turn & comes back up the other side with a little spin around the patio where he thinks he can run right into the house COVERED from EYES TO TAIL in pampas grass!!!
How did I miss this video? Jane, this is totally hysterical! Guinness will try to roll in anything that smells. Murphy, not so much, but he would definitely eat the worms.
Our boy does this ALL the time....took me a while to figure out exactly what he was rolling in....lol and we let him do it too because it looks like he is enjoying himself so much!
