When I go out of Noah's sight and he doesn't realize it until I'm gone, he'll run around like a mad man looking for me. Even if it's only 5 seconds, he will greet me as if I have been gone for hours. Sometimes when I throw a toy for him to fetch, I hide (yes, I'm mean lol!). When Noah runs back to me and doesn't see me, he forgets about the toy and goes on a hunt for me. You should see his expression when he realizes I'm gone, it's too funny.
Bentley does this too..and he cries..he's such a momma's boy.. if he cant find me, he sits on the stairs leading to the upstairs which we have gated off..and cries..lol..upstairs is where my master bathroom is..so often, im getting ready for the day. when he does find me, he comes running wagging his tail so hard that his behind is shaking too.. too cute.
Whopper does this too. It's especially funny when I come home from work. I try to go up the stairs really slowly and quietly but no matter how hard I try, I can hear her start on her way down the stairs. Once I hear her close, I stop moving. She then stops (or at least I don't hear her anymore) for about 5 seconds trying to figure things out and then I hear her slowly creeping forward until I see her head peak around the corner and spot me. Once she does she starts wiggling with excitement but knows I won't pet her until she sits. She'll sit for two seconds, lets me pet her, and then she goes upstairs checking every two steps to make sure I'm following her up. Once we're up all the stairs then she knows she'll get more lengthy attention and doesn't let me go anywhere alone.
When Cagney goes outside to the bathroom for an ex. in the early am hours of the morning he will come running into my room to make sure that I am there before laying down... it is like he has to make sure I am in bed before he can settle down again...
Jane, that is soooo mean! You know how attached these doodles are! JK! That sounds like something I would do. Actually I may have to try it. As far as them coming to look for me, this never happens because they know even in a dead sleep that I have moved and are right there with me. Since Fenway was a baby I have not been able to leave a room without her noticing and usually following me. I used to tiptoe around so I wouldn't wake her up when she was a puppy, but it never worked so I just gave up. She's recently gotten more independent just as Dustin is getting more needy so I still have at least one if not two doodles on my heels everywhere I go. Actually I just finished putting away some clothes and was walking back and forth from my living room to my closet and they followed me every step of the way and sat patiently outside of the closet while I put the clothes away (I guess they've figured out there is no other way for me to get out of the closet).
Darwin is a bit more independent than I expected. I can pretty much go anywhere and he won't budge. (providing I don't have any food in my hands) On occasion though, if I go into a room and close the door, I will find him laying right outside it waiting when I come out. It's adorable. He does wag his tail and get really excited when I get home from work and wants to cuddle.
Is this a "doodle" trait? My old dog didn't feel the need to be with me every waking moment. As you all have said Leo is the same and is either with me constantly or looking for me. It's anybody in our house as long as he is with somebody. And if you should happen to get away without him seeing you....yes when you come back it's as if you've been gone for days! Isn't it great to be loved!
