My son, Sebastian, 10, was just diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) last week. It's amazing how therapeutic our Ringo has been for him! We also have a potbellied piglet that my son has bonded with. We are just learning about the autism spectrum and all it's challenges, and it's nice to see positive things come from our doodles....I swear, they're almost human! I'd love to add another to our family...the red ones on the slide show are just beautiful!

Hi Melissa,
Sorry, I just found your response. On your "My Page," click photo under your present gray and white fake photo. Next, under your name, you'll find a teeny-tiny copy of the "fake photo." Next to it you'll see a small colored box. Click on that and a place comes up for you to add your real photo. Good luck.

That would be great, I thought I was doing it, but it keeps showing up like it is?

Hi Melissa,
If you are having difficulty adding a Profile Picture, I'd be happy to guide you.

Hi Patty!
Thanks for joining in! I was not sure if I would make any connections! Anna is very cute! I tell you, I could tell about so many incidents that I have seen, things that really make you go hmmm...! LOL Anyway, I am breeding Goldendoodles. With the help of my son. He is having a great time with our dogs. I am hoping to be able to donate pups to other kids with special needs. I think the little girl not having anymore sleep walking is a great example of one of the many benefits these dogs have to offer.

Forgot to mention that Anna is my sweet, autistic granddaughter.

I was happy to find your new group, Melissa. I have an 8-yr-old granddaugher with high functioning autism. To see her interact with one of my labradoodles brings me and my daughter great joy. I am also an Australian Labradoodle breeder and find further pleasure in offering puppies to families with special needs children. Interestingly, I gave an older labradoodle to a family with an 11-yr-old daughter who walked in her sleep. The very first night the dog slept with the child and the the young girl has not had a sleep walking incidence since. Such amazing therapy dogs! So, once again, thank you for starting this group.

If anyone else has a child or knows someone with Autism or special needs or is just interested in this topic...please feel free to join. My son is 11, diagnosed with high functioning autism. He is an animal nut. Even though relating to his peers can be very difficult, relating to our dogs is another story! I think the benefits of having our dogs is huge for him. In fact, he made a nice little connection just the other day. Upon coming home, Praise (our golden retriever) wanted all our attention as soon as we hit the door (she always does even if we just left the room for five minutes!). He was sitting with her and she was trying frantically to climb in his lap. He said "Now I know how dad feels when he comes home from work! Remind me to not be hyper and wrestle him when he walks in from work!". To be able to "get" how someone else feels is a huge thing for kids on this spectrum and I was very excited to hear this coming from my son.
