Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Crush is 11 months old now and I was expecting a dreadful coat change that everyone talks about by now. There has only been one time that I turned her over to brush her and she had about 30 minutes worth of mats around her belly and hind legs. I gently removed them with her electric shaver and ordered a matting brush that removes them nicely. Since that one incident, I've only found a handful of little mats that I brushed right out. I brush her every few days and it is fairly easy to do. She is a non-shedder so I expected that there would be a mat-filled coat change. Has anyone else had a non-shedding labradoodle that didn't go through much of a coat change? I'm not complaining by any means :)

My Goldendoodle is about 11 months old and I haven't seen a coat change with her wither.  She seems fluffier in some parts, but there isn't any matting.  She doesn't shed either.

I have one line that has very limited matting at the coat change time. I have an 11 month old with no matting yet either and it looks like it will stay that way. Stay tuned. :) This is a picture of her coat. Her tail looks fuzzy, but that's because it doesn't hold still.

What de-matting brush did you buy?

I have many different Les Poochs brushes, but so far a pin brush and a comb are enough for her coat. Her brother is the same. I use an inexpensive slicker brush from Williamson for table drying after a bath.

Barb which les poochs brush do you recommend for a non-shedding slightly wavy/fleece coat?

Probably the lime green one. Mine took a walk somewhere a while back so I kind of forget. I use the purple as a replacement.

Hahah ok thank you

I ordered the Safari de-matting comb on amazon.com.

Thanks for letting me know Breanna- that is so cheap!

Personally I wouldn't use a blade comb on a doodle unless I planned to cut short right after. Better to cut out the mats and then clip. The different lengths of coat left by a blade comb seem to increase matting IMHO.

Loo had a very easy coat change. I combed a lot of dead hair from her coat but she did not mat! Her coat is very, very thick and curly and she does not mat! Even this winter I let her coat grow to about 6 inches! Because her hair was so thick, it took awhile to comb her out, but she had no mats! I consider myself very lucky not having to deal with mats!
Kallie is now 15 months old and I keep waiting for her coat to change. She has had occasional mats at her collar, ears, back and under arms but nothing horrible.I just snip the mats out. She has a wavy fleece coat that I usually comb rather than brush, especially since I let her hair grow out over the winter.A little very soft fleece comes out in the comb usually.Maybe this is all the coat change she will have? She looks like Crush so maybe this type of coat has a lesss noticeable coat change sometimes.
