Jack is a small little guy, and from what I understand little ones are more prone to tooth decay because they are not huge chewers. I brush Jack's teeth three times a week. He loves the peanut butter flavor toothpaste. I am not a fan of getting the tooth paste all over his face hair but hey.

I still notice a little gingivitis on his teeth, and sometimes his gums bleed when I brush. The vet said it is only a little tarter, I don't want any. He is not even two yet.

I won't let him have the greenie's or anything else like that. What do you all do for your dogs teeth to keep them healthy. If you ever need the vet to clean your dogs teeth they have to put them to sleep to do it.

I want to stay on top of it and am not sure what else I could do.

Thanks so much

We give our two Golden doodles raw carrots 2 or 3 times a day, cut into small pieces with their breakfast , at lunch time with sliced banana and when I'm doing the veggies before the evening meal.  Whenever they hear me opening the fridge to take out the carrots they're right there!!  Our vet remarked several times on how great their teeth are.  We used to brush their teeth with the doggy toothpaste which they used to lick off the brush immediately, but now we just give them the carrots which they love.

If only Jack would eat a carrot, I swear he snubs his nose at it and walks away, He doesn't like apples or any veggies. He will chew bully sticks occasionally, he will eat the bone marrow bones but not enough to keep his teeth the way I want them kept. For now I am just going to brush his teeth, wipe out his mouth etc.

Thank you all for your great advice

Bernice mentioned her dogs licking the toothpaste off the brush immediately when brushing teeth. Something I learned about brushing a dog's teeth is to push the toothpaste into the brush so it doesn't just sit on top. Makes the taste of the toothpaste last longer :-)

Here is a very interesting article about the importance of maintaining your dog's teeth. I have just ordered a whole dental care system for Jack.. His teeth need to be cleaned very often
