Every summer we clip Indy using a #30 blade with the 1/8" comb attachment to get his coat nice and short. We use Wahl Switchblade clippers.

His coat looks great for a week or so and then it needs to be cut AGAIN! We've gotten tired of this constant clipping and wondered about the #10 blade that came with our clipppers that we've never used...

Will the #10 shave him down to the skin? I'm worried that he'll look silly! Although I've heard it's easier to clip them with a blade only rather than with the combs attached and actually comes out more even.

Any words of advice on this? I'm a little nervous to just go ahead and do it! :)  Thanks!

A number 10 cut is pretty much bald and you have to be careful of sunburn on the skin. If his hair grows really fast, you could do it and keep him out of the sun for a few days. I shave my Schnauzer with a number 9. That leaves a little. I have used a 10 on a number of my dogs. Especially if it is a thick coated wool and we are expecting puppies. By the time the new mom gets back outside, her coat has come in enough so she is not naked. I leave the legs, face and tail longer. I say you have nothing to lose by trying. His coat will grow back.
If you can cut your dood yourself and he looks great, I would just do it again as needed. If you were paying a groomer and you had to go too often, cost would be a huge factor. BUT lucky you, you can do it and he can look great all of the time.
First full professional grooming: Do you think they're discussing the goofy bows on their ears?
