I have been looking for an alternative to the spot-on type of flea treatments because of all the health warnings.  If you have used Program Tablets, did you like them, did they work?

Also I have read a bit about Cedarcide as a natural flea repellent.  Has anyone used it? Like? Work?

Thanks

We give Wrigley Comfortis, and we've never seen a flea on her. We live in Mississippi where fleas can be a problem, and we share a fence with neighbors who unfortunately don't pay much attention to their dogs. Wrigley is inside most of the day, but we wanted to make sure that she was protected in case those fleas hopped the fence! It's one pill a month, no mess. We've been giving it to her for about 7 months, and she's never had any reactions or problems with it.
Do any of these work for ticks too?
No, Comfortis is for fleas only. I have Gracie Doodle on Comfortis which I give her on the first of each month. Then on the 15th of each month I give her Sentinel which is also for fleas and heart worm. For tick protection you have to use Frontline Plus, Advantage or one of the topical solutions. Otherwise, there are tick collars available but I am not familiar with their results. Where we live we don't have a tick problem but when I send Gracie to the Dog Ranch or we go up to the back country/mountains, then I apply Frontline Plus. Gracie Doodle has been on Comfortis and Sentinel for over a year with no problems at all.
No, I haven't. I need to keep off the ticks primarily so I use Frontline and Interceptor (for heartworm) on the first of the month.
That's my big issue too. Ticks are just a huge huge problem in my area.
Ewwwww...ticks!!! Unbelievable, but my husband and I were born and raised right here in Point Loma (the peninsula) in San Diego. We were beach bums growing up...ha ha! The word "tick" never even presented itself until we were adults and then only when Lymes Disease came into the news did we become aware of those nasty little beasts. At Christmas we took Gracie Doodle with us up to San Jose to our daughters. We took the dogs to the Santa Cruz mountains and it was there that Gracie got 3 ticks. I didn't discover them until we had been home for a week. There was a huge one on the inside ear flap. Disgusting! I yelled for my husband and we didn't have clue what to do. We remember hearing about taking a hot match tip to the body, Eventually we got it out completely. Really hard suckers to get out. Later I found one on her snout close to the black nose. The final one was days later right on the top fold of her ear. The disgusting thing was that she had been sleeping with us for over a week before we discovered them...ewww! Long story short...we took her to the vet, had the blood test to make sure she didn't contract any of the diseases that come with ticks. You have to wait two weeks after the bite to have the blood test. She is clear but I have become very paranoid. We are going back up to San Jose with her in June...Yipes! It is almost impossible to check out a Doodle for ticks if their hair is long!!
I have used flea free on my mini golden since I brought her home as a puppy. She is 1 1/2 years old and I've never seen a flea or tick on her. You can peruse the website to read more about it.

Thanks, I checked out the site. It says it can be used for a human supplement too. If it keeps mosquitoes away, I might have to try it for myself. =)
If a human were to try it how would you take it? It is a food supplement so does that mean it is a powder or a capsule?
Yes, we use it and yes, it works. It doesn't kill or repel fleas, but it breaks the life cycle so one flea doesn't mean infestation. If your dog already has fleas, get rid of them first with a flea bath or topical. The adult flea that you can see is only a small part of the life cycle, so breaking that cycle actually works very well. If you use this monthly all the time you won't ever have a flea problem.
