Hates nail trimming

My 9 month old puppy doesn't like having her nails trimmed. She pulls, twists, tries to chew my hand and cries then gets frantic when I try to cut her nails. Last night I brushed her on the couch, she was so relaxed and enjoying it and then tried to slip in a couple of nail cuts, but she didn't go for it. I was able to get the top off a couple of them. Also her nails are black, so I can't tell how short to go. My other doodle has clear nails, she isn't fussy on having he nails done, but does tolerate it. Any suggestions? Not sure if I should take her to a groomer for the next couple of trims. Do you think it would help to get her used to it, since they are quicker at it.

Spike was like that at the beginning too. Now he will hold each paw up for anyone. Me. The vet. The vet techs. The groomer. Whoever.
It's all about getting them used to having their feet handled. With Spike I sat on the floor with him and grabbed each paw. One at a time. Rubbed it in my hands. Touched each nail and each pad. Then I praised him and gave him a treat. Once he handled that I introduced the clippers. I always let him sniff them before I touch him with them. In the beginning I touch each nail with them. Not clipping. Just touching. Again with praise and rewards. I did this a few times a day and in a little over a week I was cutting his nails. It was a tip my no restraint groomer gave me. We have no troubles whatsoever with his nail trims now. And I still play with his feet. Just because I can :)

My second doodle also has dark nails and I was afraid of hurting her. So I got an electric file and just use that for both.

Oh those are wonderful ideas!! I will definitely do that. I do play with Piper's paws, but not to the extent you do. I use the drumel tool to file their claws, but I didn't think about only using it. Thanks so much,

My dil has two whippets.  One is fine with anyone cutting his nails but the other behaves exactly like you describe.  She often runs her into the vet or PetSmart to get the nails cut.  She feels it is cheap and less stressful for the dog.
