Sophie is going to have her first haircut in a couple of weeks, just before her 1st birthday.  Her hair is wavy, more golden retriever than poodle.  How short should we get it cut?  It will be a scissor cut.  Thanks.

Providing she is not matted. I would have your groomer cut her to where her adult coat has grown out to. If you look at her base coat you can see where the adult coat comes out of the root to where the puppy coat is at the end...Usually about 2" at least by a year old....

I agree. Two inches is a great length for a one year old. There is enough coat to brush to continue to pull out the puppy coat, but not so much coat that you can't get the brushing done. OOPS....should have said get the combing done.
BTW, you are so right about combing!
Wow, her first haircut! Bella is 6 months old and she has had three already....she is more poodle than lab though so that may be part of the difference. This last time they did the best so far in grooming, i had her cut to about two inches and i think it is a very manageable length. Good luck.
