Here is a more poodle style cut. I asked them for 3/4" on his body, 1" on his head. With this cut they scooped out his eyes with the clipper, which I didn't like.
Here is a super short cut, I asked for the same length all over... this was 1/2" I think.
And this is what he looks like when I clip him, I usually put on my 1" attachment and shave him to the same length all over.
This was another cut I did that was 1" all over, when he was a puppy.
You might get a better sample by just perusing the members photos. Click on the "members" tab at the top of the page. There are over 400 pages of members. It is going to depend a lot on the coat type of your pup. Tara has wavy fleece hair and I could never get the same cut on her that one would see on a more wooly coated doodle no matter how much I liked it. By looking through the members you can find doodles with similar coats to your doodles and then go to their Page for more photos. Good luck, I know how unnerving the first cut can be!
Camilla~ loved your pics of Darwin...he looks almost exactly like my Molly. She is just 6 mos old, so this gives me an idea of what to expect of her coat in the future. I took her for her first haircut last weekend, and they, too, scooped out the eyes with the clipper (which I didn't like either.) Should I tell them to "scissor cut" the eyes next time? I wasn't sure what to ask for...I didn't want her shaved down because I wanted some "doodle" curls, and with her new cut,she looks alot like your first picture of Darwin. I'd love any input that you might share about what to expect with her wavy fleece coat in the future. Amy
I just specifically asked them next time to not scoop out the eyes or shave the bridge of the nose. I assume they clipped it with scissors because it was better next time.
As far as not wanting Darwin shaved down, I've faced 3 options.
1: keep him completely brushed out at all times (line brushing with comb and slicker every day) so he doesn't mat.
2: Ask them to clip him as long as possible (1 - 1/2") and be okay with the weirdness until he grows out.
3: Pay for a scissor cut, which is VERY expensive, and some groomers don't do it at all.
Mainly I will keep him brushed out until it gets ridiculous, then I shave him down either myself or take him in. I don't worry about the end result too much anymore since his hair grows so fast, it doesn't stay weird for very long.
Thanks for the input!
Love it! All of them!
Here are a few different ones Chaucer has been in.
Short with a shaved poodle face. I had the groomer do this after he kept bringing pools of water over to our lap with his beard.
Him at dog-daycare in his schnauzer/terrier type trim. Short head/ears and shorter on body than on legs. It's slightly grown out in this picture.
I don't really know any of the lengths. I'm not picky and always just tell the groomer to have fun. It always grows back.
