I think he is very cute just the way he is! :)
He looks adorable, love his color too!
Sorry no advice but I like his look too! :)
Here is an older thread on the stinky beard issue. I may try a few of the suggestions on my puppy.

He's adorable! But I understand what you mean. Hopefully he likes to be brushed and combed. I reccommend get a friend that Sam knows, brush him every day and then the 2 of you give him a little trim. My boys will do anything for a treat so have a few handy. Go slow and remember, it will grow back.
Good Luck
Are you afraid to trim for fear of hurting him or of ruining his look? If it is fear of hurting you could get some scissors with rounded tips which helps eliminate the pointy tips around the eyes. If it is fear of ruining his look, sometimes just taking a small amount off the ends really helps take some weight off and get the fluff back and you can just follow the pattern that the groomer has already established.
Hair around the eyes looks cute but sometimes, when too long, can interfere with their ability too see properly so keep that in mind too. Be brave! :)
Awwwww - he is precious! Cutting about 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the length will give him more "fluff" and won't be so heavy to weight it down. May also consider getting a pair of thinning sheers and just taking some of the weight out that way.
