Does anyone have any suggestion on how best to get the sand out of our doodles' coats. The beach closest to our house has sand as fine as flour and we can't get it out! We are shampooing them after every trip to the beach and it's still not getting out. Help!

Beautiful beach. Where is that? Lucky!!

We just moved to Hawaii July 4. This is Kailua Beach Park. Yes, we feel very blessed.

You need a high volume air blower and just blow the sand out of the coat. I do it all the time here as I live in a dry sandy soil area.

Barb, what is your favorite blow dryer? I'm making your lemon juice concoction right now. I hope it works on my pup with skin issues (yeast I believe)

Bonnie, I have no idea but I'm wondering if you diluted a pre-shampoo detangler in a big spray bottle, sprayed them, and let them dry before going to the beach if the sand would be less likely to adhere.   I keep Finn pretty short for the summer because everything jumps to his coat like a magnet.  Hosing him afterwards usually washes everything out. But I have to shampoo and rinse with a sprayer/hose, not just bathe him.  Lucky he likes it :)  Beautiful beach.

I think maybe we just figured out what the price is for living in paradise.  I was surprised when we were in FL in April that the sand wasn't worse.  We just hosed off Lucy's feet and then brushed when she dried.  I think the sand is probably a little different there though.  Hopefully you will get it figured out as it would be a shame for the doodles not to get to go to the beach.  How far is it to the beach?  If you tell me this is outside your front door I'm going to be way happy for you and way jealous for me!

Joanne, My living room looks like this photo after the dogs come in the door but this picture was taken about 6 miles from our house. ;o) There are other beaches farther away that have a courser sand and it doesn't stick like the sand at this beach. I realize it's a small price to pay. I am just looking for solutions to this dilemma... hope I didn't sound like I was complaining!

Now that's an excellent suggestion Barb! I have one! Gotta try this!

Cheryl, We are shampooing them outside and then spraying with as high a volume sprayer at the hardware store. I think we need a fire hose!

I would recommend a dryer like this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NXM4X8/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_...
We take our pup to the beach frequently and so far have had no sand issues. It falls right out. Maybe add a spray sheen to the coats to keep the sand from sticking? I use my horses Show Sheen on my guys coat. Only spray outside as it will make carpet and floors very slick!

Thank you Kimberly. We just got home and I cannot find the dryer I have. It's in one of the oddles of unpacked boxes! I'll look for the product you mentioned too. Wish me luck!

Hope one of the suggestions here work for you. It was a big concern for us. We were shocked how the sand just fell right out of Chopper's coat but then he still has his puppy coat and this may change. The sand at our beach is also a little coarser. I have some friends that apply baby powder/corn starch to their own skin and the sand falls right off. They swear by it. Maybe it works on pets too. :)
Good Luck! Let us know what works.

I keep a portable camping shower, a super-absorbent microfiber towel and a slicker brush in the trunk at all times.  If I can find a forced air dryer that doesn't need to be plugged in or can run from your cigarette lighter I'm going to get that too.  I like to get as much of it as possible done before getting back in the car - both for me and for Lola.

Wonderful picture Bonnie! :)
