Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Rooney was groomed today and at just shy being 5 months - I asked her to cut his facial hair a bit shorter. I was having trouble seeing his beautiful eyes and he gets a matt right underneath his chin that several squirrels could live in. So I told her to take the chin shorter and area around his mouth and eyes. So I am posting a before and an after - what look works best? Rooney's body - other than the sani & feet have never been trimmed. One thing I want to avoid is having his body look really big and his head look too small. Comments and suggestions welcomed.

I like the idea of rounding off a bit on the top of his ears. Also we prefer to keep Mitzi's chin as short as possible. Can't stand her dripping water all over the terrazzo floor, slippery and dangerous! It also keeps her from wiping her chin off on the furniture, yuk!
Rooney is absolutely adorable, can't imagine him not looking good in any style.
What a super cute dood Rooney is! I like being able to see his eyes better, and the beard short. Nice cut!

Hi Jane...
Rooney is sooooooo adorable!!
I agree with you...I like seeing his eyes...and like the shorter beard.
He sure is growing up to be a handsome dood...that's for sure!
Make sure you let him know that Sasha sends him Great Big Doodle Hugs...
I'm not sure about that comment any more, but as I look at the photo above, the bottom photo that is, he looks almost
squared off in the total head. I think a more rounded off overall view is what the doodle trim is like. I followed a link someone posted yesterday to a labradoodle groomer site that had pictures which were very cute. However, I did not care for the sharp v shape so close to the eyes. Everyone has a different opinion of how the trims should look. That is probably one of the most confusing things about Doodle grooming and why I joined this group. I am also a Standard Poodle lover and have a lot of conflict with the way most of the doodle people feel about how their dogs look. I used to keep Mitzi's face shaved, but as she got a little older her physical shape took on more of the thicker muzzle of a retriever rather than the more refined poodle side so we started letting her facial hair grow longer and fuller. Now she has the cuteness of a true Doodle rather than the mixed look of a poodle-doodle! : )
My best suggestion is to read all you can, look up all the possible pictures of doodles you can find and then make up
your own decision of how you want him to look. He is so cute you can't go wrong.
Another thought is that the bottom of Rooney's ears are trimmed almost straight across, that may be where the "rounded
off" idea started, just guessing, though.
I do hope we get to meet in person. My DH and I are occassionally in N. Ft. Myers where a cousin of his lives.
