I've watched the videos by Ann and Sully on youtube (see video below) to help me with clipping BB.

I have a pair of brand new (refurbished) Wahl Clippers that shouldn't be that bad, but when I try to comb through him, nothing happens... The clipers work great if I hold the hair in my hand and then comb through the taut hair, but it works nothing like what Ann is doing in the videos. Its effortless for her!

I find that the first time after I oil, and whenver I stop to clean out the hair that gets stuck in the blades and the plastic guide it works, but in a few seconds it stops... Do I need to seriously upgrade my clippers, or what?

There is no comb being used in the video and they are harder to use.

Perhaps the angle you are holding the clippers at is not steep enough for the comb. The teeth on the comb should lift the hair away from the skin so the blade can reach it.

If I use my clippers without a plastic comb it takes him down to the skin...

I'm guessing I can buy different blades that will allow for not as short of a cut?

I cannot use a comb attachment when I clip my dogs' hair. The clippers work with just blades but then you get a shorter haircut.
I used the metal combs on Riley to check it out the other day and they worked fine.  I believe the plastic ones are not as good.
This won't be helpful, but maybe informative. I have the cheap Wahl clippers too and recently upgraded to Andis AGR Plus. The Andis doesn't work at all! It jams constantly. Within seconds! I groomed Hunter yesterday and had to go back to my Wahl clippers because I was so frustrated. I just e-mailed the company where I purchased the Andis to find out if I can return them. So, who knows???? This was the most-expensive Andis, so obviously money isn't every thing! ha
