Has anyone flown their older doodle with them in a plane? How did they do? Or was it like "Marley and Me", where they heard him howling from down below the whole way!!! I am interested in bringing him back and forth to Fla.from AZ., with me and when DH can come, we drive, so it's no problem. But for me to take him, I'd have to fly. I'd think he'd be scared to death!! Any thoughts?

I'll be watching this discussion with great interest. Flying is the only way I would ever be able to travel any distance with Jack, but I truly believe that Jack would have a heart attack from fear if he was put in the cargo hold of a plane. I have been told by airline people that the noise alone is unbelievable.
I've also heard that there is an airline that has special flights where larger dogs can fly in the passenger compartment even if they are too big for under seat carriers. Does anyone know about that?
Karen, I agree about the heart attack. Murphy does really well with travel, but is still pretty anxious when we leave him home alone, even tho he's with our grand-doodle Marley all day. I can't imagine all the strange noises and smells and darkness and confusion of leaving him alone in a crate ( something he doesn't even own now) even for a few hours. Then to be handled by strangers to be taken to another flight if there is a plane change. And just think how frightened they'd be if there was a layover!!! I just can't imagine the logistics of flying our guys.

I just checked out this site and it looked like it would cost us about $900.00 to fly Murphy from Phoenix to Ft. Lauderdale. It looks as though it would be a very nice flight and they advertise that the pets are attended to during the flight, in a climate controlled enviorment, etc. But that is pretty expensive isn't it? How much are regular flights? Anyone?
