Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi all....not sure if anyone else has this issue...but, if someone (and it doesn't make a difference if it's me, my husband or someone else) is showing Fazzy attention (petting, etc)...if another dog comes along, he gets all snarky and goes after him/her, snarly and barking - chasing the other dog off...then comes back for more attention. I want to put a kabosh on that behavior, but don't know how to go about it. Yesterday we were at a doodle playgroup, he was laying next to the daughter of one of the other gals there, and she was rubbing his belly, etc.....their dog came up and he was all over Casey, chasing him away. Is this guarding, or jealousy, or ??? Sometimes if we're out and about and he's nearby and we start petting another dog, he comes right over and moves right between us, or snarks at the other dog. He doesn't bite or get aggressive in that way, but I don't want him doing that.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!
Rita

I have 2 dogs and they are so jealous of each other it's crazy. They can't stand the other one to be petted or even talked to nicely without jumping in. They constantly take toys from each other. I have no suggestions for you other than it's jealousy. Hopefully they grow out of it.
Post this in the training group. It is a training question and there are solutions, and you are correct in that you want to train him out of it. It is normal for some dogs to want the attention and push others away, but you don't want it to develop into guarding behaviors.
Thanks...will do!
