For great, reasonably priced emergency & critical veterinary care in the North & Northwest Chicago suburbs, The Veterinary Specialty Center emergency clinic: 1515 Busch Parkway Buffalo Grove IL (847) 459-7535 www.VetSpecialty.com
They also have a full staff of board certified specialists in allergy & immunology, orthopedics, opthalmolgy, physical rehab, alternative care, behaviorists, etc. All the techs, receptionists, and everyone associated with them is cheerful, helpful, and really seems to care.
Our jack russell sees the allergy doctor @ Vet Specialty....they have done an awesome job of helping manage his allergies and he doesn't even mind his bi-weekly allergy shots we do at home!
Yes, Dr. Kuhl!!!! Our jack russell Kramer, his sister Gracie (belongs to my parents) and his brother Ozzy (belongs to my cousin) unfortunately all have wicked bad allergies and Dr. Kuhl has been awesome helping them all get it under control. Unfortunately Ozzy is the worst, Kramer 2nd, and Gracie isn't really that bad. Poor Ozzy didn't even have fur left on his legs when he first went to Dr. Kuhl and now he looks like a normal pup! He has to get his shots weekly, Kramer gets his every 2-3 weeks.
I will also recommend Jackdoodle's regular veterinarian, Patrick Emmelot, at Lincolnshire Animal Hospital. he takes a lot of time with his patients, calls you at home to discuss things, and is open to suggestions. North/Northwest suburbs of Chicago. (847) 634-9250
Great idea!
We use Barrington Animal Hospital on Rte 14 near Lake Cook in Barrington. . It's an all woman practice and they are terrific. We go to Dr Beherens who is always available to discuss problems. We couldn't be happier with them.
I am glad to hear about the emergency vet in Buffalo Grove.
I use Demanes Animal Hospital in Peoria, IL. They have three docs there, all good. They are open about treatment options, provide written estimates, communicate well in person and by phone, and make follow-up calls to check on your pet after treatment. The entire staff is caring and loving toward their patients. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this practice. There is an emergency clinic in Peoria as well, called the Tri-County Emergency Vet. Clinic (I think that's the proper title, anyway). I used them once about five years ago, when my greyhound needed emergency after-hours care for an injury. I was not happy with the results, but it was a long time ago, and they may be better now.

We go to Pekin Veterinary Clinic in Pekin, and we love them. We use their groomer, too. The vets there have been great with Halas. We haven't had any emergencies yet, but I know from our past dogs and friends' dogs that they are good in emergencies. They've gone above and beyond for one of my work friends when her dog was hit by a car last Spring.
Marsha, I've also not always heard great things about the emergency vet clinic in Peoria. It's strange, because I think we have a lot of good local vets, and I think the local vets are the ones that own the emergency clinic, but maybe they don't run it. In fact, my work friend that I mentioned above had a dog there for several nights. He had to spend the nights at the emergency place (needed someone there all the time and regular vet doesn't have anyone there overnight) and then go back to the regular vet in the morning to spend the day. Well, she got tired of doing that and didn't feel that the emergency place was really doing anything for him, so she wanted to just keep him home at night. This is where our vet clinic went above and beyond. One of the doctors, who lived out of town, said she could leave him at the regular vet clinic overnight, and he made a special trip into town in the middle of the night for a few nights just to check on him. The dog is doing fine now, and this is after it seemed very unlikely that he was going to survive the accident. I'm sure a lot of it is due to the effort of our vet.
We go to Indian Prairie Animal Hospital on Rt 59 in Aurora. We get Taffy groomed at Wag N Wash in Naperville on Rt 59. We have been happy with both so far.
We go to Dr.Sholts at the Forest View Animal clinic,he is the best.Everybody I know goes there for 25 years !!!
I found him recommended by Checkbook, good ratings and reasonable priced, very mellow, answers all questions, doesn't try to talk you into things.I'm just happy we have found him,he is in Hoffman Estates of Algonquin Rd.
We see Dr. Atkinson at Burr Ridge Veterinary Clinic. It is now located in Darien and not Burr Ridge. Great facilities, staff and doctors (www.burrridgevet.com). They are great with Rex.
For an emergency vet (24 hour), we have gone to Arboretum View Animal Hospital (http://www.arboretumviewanimalhospital.com/) in Downers Grove - they helped us with our 16 year old Maltese-Poodle when she started having seizures. Unfortunately we had to put her down in August 2008. :(
I cannot say enough great things about our vet, Dr. Jeff Deeke at Animal Medical Center of Itasca. He is the best. The other vets are also very nice...we've seen Dr. Thompson, and Dr. Blondin. Great experience with both. Dr. Deeke has been our vet for 10+ years, and we just love him.
