I see it on the brush and on our clothes. When we first got her she did not shed at all. It's all good.
My dd pup is almost a year now, and he does shed a bit. I comb and brush him often, and that seems to help. I've read elsewhere on this site that their coat changes quite a bit in the first couple of years, so there is definitely hope. Just depends on genetics, and how much of that poodle coat he or she has. Ours has fleece on top, and wavy hair on his back, and that's the hair that sheds.

She has fleece on her sides and straight coarse hair on her back. She is a great puppy we will just see thank for the input.

Hi Geneva,

Elsa is a beautiful pup!

She may shed some due to the fact she looks flat coated, but she will go through a coat change as she gets closer to 1 year old and it could become a lot curlier.

My DD had a wavy coat as a pup and it's a curly fleece now. He's 3 years old and does not shed, but he does mat!

Hello.  We get to pick up our puppy this coming Sunday, but because my daughter has a mild allergy to dogs I have done extensive research on doodle coats.  We originally selected a dog that turned out to have a short hair coat but before we picked her up (about two weeks ago) we changed to a puppy with a coat less likely to shed.   It seems there are three main coat types.  Hair, fleece and wool.  Hair is considered to be the worst shedder while Fleece is low to no shed and wool is a no shed.  Hair can come in two varieties, long or short.  The little guy we were going to get had a coat that looked just like a lab even though he was only 1/8 lab.  We didn't notice him shedding until my wife wore a black shirt and saw the hair.  Doodle coats typically go through a change at about one year resulting on the coat that they will have for the rest of their lives.  There can be some significant changes in the coat, however the likelihood is that a straight hair coat in the puppy stage will more likely be a straighter hair coat as an adult...that is not a guarantee, only that it is more likely.  Several coat changes during the first year is possible and there can be some hair loss that will look like shedding.  If it is just coat changes and not actually shedding, the hair loss will only go on for a few days to a few weeks and then go away where as shedding continues and worsens during seasonal changes.  Both hair loss and shedding can get worse after bathing.  Brushing helps remove the hair changes and shortens the time when one might see the hair loss that could look like shedding.  Unfortunately there is really no way to know for sure whether you have a shedder until about a year.  there are only hints that may or may not be accurate predictors.  Looking at the picture of your little doodle it is likely she has the long hair coat type which may shed to some degree as an adult, but that is only an educated guess and not a guarantee.  Good luck and until the first year is up it may be a mystery.  The hair coats do have one HUGE advantage.  It is by far the easiest to maintain and the easiest to clean.  Fleece and wool coats are sometimes called dust mops while dirt and dust almost falls right off of hair coats.  For us, the allergy issues more likely coming along with shedding (increased dander) took center stage.  The breeders prefer the hair coats because it is SO MUCH easier to keep clean and SO MUCH easier to groom, even though they do pick up a lot of shedding hair.
