Thanks to Jacqie and the DRRC, I am picking up my first foster tomorrow. 'Jason' is a 4 month old, male, NOT intact, F1b puppy from Almost Heaven.
Of course as you all know me and my camera ready fingers, pictures to be posted tomorrow.
My mother always told me never to go to someones home emptyhanded so I am going to the shelter with lots of goodies. I have been calling all the businesses I do business with and hitting them up for donations. I hope they are generous! I am going to bring bags of food, collars and leashes and of course, toys!
I made Jacquie SWEAR on a stack of bibles NOT to allow me to become a foster failure!!
I want to continue to help those that really need the help - how can I go to Florida in a studio apartment with 2 doodles? - DH will strangle me!! but truthfully, I want to be able to have a revolving door of fosters. I know it will be hard to let go but to find a forever home will be worth a few torrential tear floods!
I am trusting everyone here in DK to make sure to remind me of these statements when the time comes to let him go!!
Oh I WILL remind you and help Jacquie on her mission to prevent you from falling into foster failuredom...besides don't we all want to have 384750754 doodles? Since I know YOU do, fostering will LET you experience all sorts of doodles without having to actually buy a house with 45,000 square feet!
Exactly and let's face it, I have no desire to clean more than I have to & I certainly cannot afford the staff that a mansion of 45,000 sq feet needs! Boy, you all make me chuckle.
Hey, no scare tactics but they do have a way of getting under your skin. This from a "failed fosterer" myself!
The be careful what you wish for was for the revolving door fosters. The DRRC is really taking off and we are hoping for more foster family's (besides Jac and myself, that is) in the NJ area. Building one region at a time. More fosters=more rescues.
crate is cleaned and set up
bought 'garbage' food to start him off with to then wean him slowly to Fromm's Puppy
puppy collar and leash ready
kongs and toys
Adrianne,
You will make a terrific foster mom!! That was so generous of you, also bringing in the goodies for the shelter.
I also enjoy the revolving foster door, in fact it's been about 4 weeks and I'm getting the itch again! I'm trying to give my hubby a break, about 12 wks ago he came in from work at the hotel and found me with our own three dogs, and THREE foster doods in crates, lined up in the living room! He said something very unintelligible and then said he was going back to the hotel for the night, using his employee discount!!! I placated him with the fact that 2 of the three would be going out of state the next day to other foster homes. Sometimes you have to play a little shell game for the hubby's sake, hehehehe.
