This company makes very good deer fencing. Mine was installed by the owner's brother who has his own company. Sibling rivalry? At any rate I just saw this on the website:

I have not tried it so if someone has or does, let us know how it works.

It says vinegar is the preservative and we have sprinkled white vinegar around to deter neighbor cats from spraying areas at my mom's. We have also used red pepper - perhaps that is in this as well. Let me know if it works - us urbanites want to deter some critters also.

Not so sure I'll try it. I have deer fencing, which is in need of some repair right now. Anything outside the fence, which as really just the front of the house is pretty critter proof.
