My container plants are never , OK with rare exceptions, what I'd like. I discovered some lovely ones at a backyard store and took some pictures. Next year.....Or maybe not. It's always easier to admire someone else's work. Most of the containers had one or another variety of Ipomoea batatas, the sweet potato vine, which may become my next plant obsession.
Those are beautiful container plants. Isn't it getting to be that time of the year to be thinking about it getting cold and gardening and planting being put on hold? I just finished pruning a bunch of my stuff though we never have "seasons" so most of the stuff will grow and bloom off and on year round. My azaleas bloom a couple of times a year and even in the winter! Ever since my DH discovered Miracle Gro that comes in a spray bottle that you just attach to the hose, my yard has grown like crazy. In 35 years it looks the greenest and healthiest it has ever looked. The shrubs just keep growing and growing and I have to keep pruning and pruning! He sprays the stuff once a month and it is absolutely amazing!
Yes, I have to keep an ear out for reports of frost . Then I need to bring in the few houseplants that are outdoors and things that I want to overwinter. But the leaves are just starting, the nights are cooler and the apples are coming in. Everything has a season.
I hope the season arrives on time. We are flying to Boston on Oct. 4 and then up to Manchester, VT on the 7th for some "Peeping" with the grandbabies and corn mazes which they loved running through last year!!!
I'm sure up there by then you'll have a wonderful fall display. I was just about to check on the foliage reports myself. I saw a nice Ban B on a lake that is dog friendly and I might think about an overnight. It's not far from here in NY state. I love container gardens, but mine didn't do so well this year. Probably because I was out of town a lot and family's watering habits were pretty hit or miss. I really like the pictures of these containers. I will have to remember this discussion when it comes time to plant next year.
I go by this house all the time, and I'm always in awe of this woman's container gardens (as well as her "regular" gardens). She works on her flowers constantly. When it rains she has about 50 umbrellas in all beautiful pastel colors that she puts over her plants. Thought I'd share.
What a gorgeous home and grounds. I bet she doesn't have a Doodle. If she did and were a member of DK her yard would NEVER look like that!!! And forget the umbrellas...she would be busy holding them over her Doodle instead. I really thought we were going to see a photo of the umbrellas...ha ha
Glad to see she has a few brown spots in the lawn. These pictures are great and show a beautiful garden but a bit too symmetrical and perfect for me. But why on earth put umbrellas over the plants. She must have a perfect watering system and then protects the foliage and flowers from rain. "Doesn't have a doodle", I bet even squirrels aren't allowed out there. Thinking about this is exhausting, I think I need a nap : )
She may be as obsessed as we are. Is there a "FlowerKisses" website? If there is, she's probably on it all the time....when she's not feeding, "grooming", watering, etc.
