They're back! I have never in my life seen such a mushroom and to my horror, when Jack was a puppy last Fall, he would race out in the morning and chomp down on these like it was the best thing ever! I would have to go out in the backyard before I let him out, with flashlight and nightie, and pick them all with plastic gloves on before he ate them. I'm not talking one or two, I had dozens of these little soldiers. They even smell. We developed a little pet name for these guys, I mean how could you not and when they came up in conversation with a landscaper, he told me it's actually their name?! I'll let you come up with your own name. I'm told they come from the mulch and that's usually where I find them. Well, I just found one this morning, I guess with all the rain.. they're back! I don't think Jack ate any, maybe he's over it, I'll be watching him. I was told they're not poisonous. Do you know of these and how to get rid of them? When you pick them, there's like a round base to it underground and I pull the whole thing. Yikes! This whole post is questionable!

I had these too, and posted quite the R-rated discussion about them. I'll have to go find it.
Karen, at least I'm in good company! Thanks for the link, had no idea they have been discussed in such detail here! LOL Now I know the proper name, and that my little nickname is not it! It's good to know that yours did not come back the next year. I searched my whole yard and I only see the one, so maybe I'll be as lucky!
You just have to get rid of the..um...the...that white ball part, lol!
You're killin' me!!! LOL!
Janie, if it isn't on DK it doesn't exist : )
Here you go, Janie: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/gardengroup/forum/topics/rrated-f...
They're called Stinkhorns"! They are tough to get rid of; you have to dig down deep to get all the spores or whatever they are, and they do smell horrible.
But I did manage to get rid of it after that one season.
Obscene is the nicest thing I can say!.
eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
exactly!!
Yes, I do remember the discussion but not the name. I've just started getting the littlest brown mushrooms all over. And as I was out mowing, because the lawn finally was dry enough, I got drenched with the next downpour. Now it's getting very dark....
I've noticed the little brown mushrooms too! Sorry you got drenched! We've got some dark clouds, but no rain. I better start the grill outside while the grillings still good!
Yes, lately outdoors is between showers.
