How Does Your Garden Grow?

I have a small vegetable garden, about 6' x 10' and always have fun planting it full and awaiting its gifts! I look at it each day and it hardly seems like anything is happening in there, other than the lettuce that we've been enjoying the last few weeks. Well, we were away last week and came home to find that the garden has been hard at work! Here's what I picked:

There were a few tomatoes too, but they were eaten before I got the idea to take a picture!

So there's plenty more cucumbers and green beans coming in, lettuce is still there and we will finish it all, and then I'll try planting more when it's cooler out. The zucchini is looking great and should be ready to pick any day:

I just wish the tomatoes were doing a little better. Last year they were huge compared to how they look this year, although they seem to be doing better and I did pick a few red ones already! Here's the garden:

Lettuce is in front, zucchini to the left, then the cucumbers to the right. Far left would be tomatoes and green beans along with basil, parsley and dill. I always planted the dill seeds in careful lines, but then my Mom reminded me how my Grandmother would just toss the seeds where ever in the garden, and so I tossed too. Now when I cut the lettuce, there's always a little dill in there with it and we love it in the salad! When I taste it, I always smile and think of my Grandmother! 

So as I'm picking my goodies from the garden, I'm wondering what are you picking from yours?!

The purple ones I had were not tough at all, they were just like the green beans. I don't remember the variety and don't have the seed pack any longer. Maybe try cooking some? How do you prepare your beans when you freeze them? I tried this once, but they were sort of waterlogged.. I think I had par boiled them first.. maybe I should have dried them off before freezing?

This is my geranium, I counted at least 50 blooms on it right now.  I have overwintered it for two years now.  It comes out of the dark looking really bad, but soon makes up time!

My new project, raised beds.  Everything is much taller now, my 2 tomato plants are nearly 5 feet tall!

Interesting that you keep your geranium overwintered in the dark. It looks beautiful. Do you water it during the winter? I keep mine in the house and treat them like house plants. By spring they are limping along. They are starting to flower outside now.

You raised garden looks like it's flourishing.

we have a cement block room under the deck, one tiny window in door.  Its like a basement, cool and temps never go below freezing.  No I don't water it.

I agree, the geranium and gardens are beautiful!!! I always get a few geraniums every spring, but come fall, toss them. Maybe I should try wintering over in the basement! I'm inspired!

Love your robins. Watch out the mama can have several batches of babies each summer. Your containers are great!

Birds choose the strangest places to nest sometimes. Your containers are lovely, and all this talk of heat is making me quite jealous. We have had very little this year (wearing my sweater as I speak!), consequently my garden is terrible. Barely anything came up, and our life got very busy so didn't have time to reseed. Oh well :(

I'm lovin' my new tomatoes I planted this year.... I'm not sure of the name but I have been calling them yellow tear drop tomatoes ... they are so sweet and so delicious :)

Diane this is the same type of tomato that I planted this year! Mine have yet to ripen though! Can't wait now after hearing your opinion of them! :)
