Here's another plant coming along on my garden. I have no idea where I it's from but I'm pretty sure I deliberately planted it : ) It has reddish stems.

This says a waxy leaf and it is hard to tell on my monitor if your leaves are waxy.  The photo I added did not look waxy either

This looks like it but I think this plant is not hardy and mine must be.

Euonymus?

It doesn't look like the variegated euonymus that I have. The unknown has bigger leaves. Tomorrow I have to go and feel them.

Can't remember where I heard this but somewhere out there, a phone app is being developed or has been developed to aid in plant identification.  You snap the photo and the plant is identified for you.

I would love that. You wonder how accurate it would be. Matt did something related to bird identification but not with one's own photos.

Possibly these aps may work or they have a great start in the attempts to identify various wildlife including plants and trees.

The reviews are so so but the ap is free so worth a try.  I'll try it today.  It sounds like you do take a picture and it tries to identify--so there is one at least out there.

• Project Noah education ap with field guides and mapping as to what, when, and where you found certain species. Also free
• On Plants--an education lecture on Itunes U from U C Berkeley,.  No thanks. I need visuals.
• I also downloaded several bird aps   :)

Leafsnap works like the description I gave last night.   You snap a picture and the photo is UPLOADED to somewhere out there.  

So far, after 45 minutes, my photo of a Pathos leaf is still being uploaded.   My phone uses wifi  hotspots so that may be the problem. :(
