Recycling Veggies - who knew???

I saw this on Pinterest and had to see for myself. OMD!! It really works!

I took the ends of scallions, romaine, celery and red cabbage and shoved them into a pot. I started them about 4 weeks ago. I do nothing but make sure they are watered.

Of course things like scallions, which have the bulb attached would grow. But a local Chinese take out put some celery in water and it has grown very well. So this should work. Potato pieces with eyes,avocado pits and many things will grow when planted.

That is fascinating. I was thinking of getting some big pots to grow some veggies in. I'd do it in the ground but I think the doodles will pee all over them. lol.

 

I went out to visit a lady in the country who owns an organic farm and sells seeds and seedlings and I was so inspired by all the possibilities. But to know that I could just plant the bulbs of scallions or a potato with eyes, or romaine, that is amazing. I'm dying to get started! I get my house in exactly one month!

My daughter actually put a used (she'd cut off the green parts) scallion in a glass of water and the green parts regrew! Wish I'd taken a picture of it.

That's pretty cool. I actually planted lettuce and spinach here weeks ago.  I GOT NOTIN.  But I have Stewpid too.

Seeds are for the birds. I may throw a few directly outside soon. So far I have nothing from the ones I planted in peat pots. The morning glory sprouted but had an accident : )
