Hi,

Well where else to turn.... I am redoing my back yard and I am wanting to plant a hydrangea bush with a fence making it non accessible to dog or I would like to plant another low maintained flower bed ...the spot I want to plant it in gets almost no sun, very shady.....I know rare for SC it's so shady my centipede grass won't grow there.

I live in zone 7b for growing stuff and the soil is very sandy and clay like.

Has anyone had success growing a decent bush in the shade?

I am new to gardening and lawn stuff. I do amazing with knock out roses but that's because all they need is water, full sun light and to be pruned twice a year.....easy......

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it!

Good job,it will grow in.

Thanks, It was suggested I cover it with mulch which I don't want to do, I had some pine straw I threw over it just a few minutes ago… it was left over, I will not be maintaining that area with pine straw though I must admit it does make it look better.

OKay, I have finally finished the back yard with a lot of help. I have knock out roses, hydrangeas, mexican petunias, azaleas, rhododendron, hostas, gardenias, a few I don't know what they are, ( my dad planted them) and fresh new sod. I am quite pleased with the way it came out…

pictures downloading now… will post soon

Sounds lovely and it will keep getting better with time.

I have never heard of "knock out roses" I think they may be perfect for my side yard if they are lower maintenance. Where would I get them? Thinking ahead to enjoying the yard again next year, hopefully after our drought has stopped. Love California but the water restrictions are getting tougher and tougher on the yards.
Here on the East coast knock out roses are sold at almost all garden centers including Lowe's and Home Depot. They can be purchased online/ mail order too.
