Tomatoes Gone Wild!

So here's a crazy tomato story! We were having a barbecue for July 4th and I had sliced up some tomatoes for the burgers. My daughter put a tomato slice on her burger and saw a tiny plant growing in the slice! I'm telling you it had nothing to do with the sangria! I couldn't believe it and took a photo:This was right inside the tomato! I took it outside and planted it in a planter so I could keep track of it. A couple of weeks later we had a few tomato plants growing with the July 4th baby. Do you see all the seeds in the first photo, they all started growing!And today I have this:I was waiting for them to grow a little so I could separate and transplant them. Will try that tonight. I just wish the July 4th baby showed up for Memorial Day so it would have more time to produce tomatoes! Anyway that's my story. My family doesn't quite get the excitement, but a plant INSIDE a tomato.. I just had to share! : )

That's really wild Janie! I have had beans and peas sprout in the pod and bell peppers with what looks like distorted peppers growing inside but never anything like your tomato.

Just thought I'd update with a photo I took a few weeks ago before the frost hit. I had ended up with four plants that I transplanted, one I fit in a planter that I had already filled with flowers. They all grew well. Only the one in the planter grew tomatoes large enough to pick. They didn't have time to turn red so I have them inside and they are starting to turn now. I'll have to inspect these carefully when I slice them, you never know! : )
