Every year I wait for the blossoms of the Red Chestnuts. Similar to Buckeye Tree blossoms ( DH;s favorite ) the Red Chestnuts smell so sweet and are just beautiful.
Even though I photographed both blossoms maybe a few days past their prime they still are so pretty and unique. I had to wait for a rainy day because the bees also love the sweet smells and make it very hard to get to close.
The Regular White Buckeye Blossom
The Red Chestnut Blossom--They are so Huge!
And off topic. I photograph this guy every year. He is my old favorite. He reminds me of a talking tree right out of a story book. He has character, age, and dimension. In my summer I take my breaks at work underneath this fairy tale tree.
OH MY GOODNESS.... Okay, let me go dig up my photo of a Banyon Tree! I forgot all about these. On my honeymoon we took pictures of these in Key West and I forgot all about them :)
Trees are comforting--- I just don't think I would climb them anymore LOL
Just love the blossoms of the Red Chestnut. They are huge. But I especially love the pix of the 'old guy'. I would love to be able to sit under him to read a book or just nap.
Every couple of years between Christmas and New Years we stay at the Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island. Right off the inn's front porch is this wonderful old Live Oak. While we are there we have our lunch under this old guy almost every day.
