Last Wednesday we had a horrendous storm blow through almost the entire province but the stretch from Peterborough to Tweed and beyond was really bad - two storms acutally about 2 hours apart - so bad it took out 300 hydro poles.  Anyway, we had a beautiful old - 150 years - White Pine that towered above all tlhe other trees around and was kind of a fixture in the skyline for me. Well it came down, or at least half of it, here are some photos of the aftermath.

This is our giant with the small half left.

Now see that old shed in the background. How did it miss!!! We actually wanted something to take it down as it would save us the trouble of pulling it down. I can't believe it didn't hit any structures and didn't hit anything on the neighbours property. Did take down some of the split rail fence but we had extra rails so no problem fixing that. So the question is, I had the tree guys leave the stump. Now the question is what to do with the stump?

I didn't realize your stump was so tall. I think planting around it and using an attractive planter on it might be best for at least the first few years.
I like the idea of a planter.

I've had two very similar white pines come down in the last few years. I alos was lucky they missed the house. Here's my solution--see the last two examples:

I think that unless you need the stump area for something else the easiest and least expensive solution is to plat a vigorous ground cover around it and let mother nature take over. You can also use it as a base for a planter or things like that.

How scary! It's amazing that none of the structures were demolished when that tree came down! Maybe you could use it as a base for a picnic table?
When we travel to the High Sierras I see a lot of stumps that people have turned into chairs or tables.  I guess they use a chain saw to cut into the side of the stump for the seat of the chair but they only go 3/4 of the way.  Some do it where they leave arms on them.  Then you fine tune the wood so it is not snaggy or rough.  For the table you would even up the top and then cut into the underneath to allow for legs/feet.  It would be very rustic looking.
