What Vegetables Are You Planning To Plant For Your Doodles?
My sons are vegetarians and my husband used to be a vegetarian also so we always plan out the vegetables carefully. Most of the garden rarely goes to waste.
This year I would love to include the doodles in the vegetable planning. What do you plant for your doodles diet?
I haven't done this but it might be a good idea. The only veg. my doodles will eat regularly are baby carrots. I could never plant enough to keep us supplied. Besides I really love opening the bag of perfect, little washed carrots : )
Gus is going to have his own raised bed garden this year 3x4 he will have pole beans, wax bush beans, peas, carrotts spinach and summer squash. His very gentle when he picks and eats his vege's but I think this year I'll put a little fence around the human raised beds. He has big feet and pole beans get tall and to reach them you have to get right in! I've never grown sweet potatoes I'm going to try this year. Has anyone grown them before? I've been peeling them and then slicing them lengthwise about 1/2 thick putting them on cooling racks on cookie sheets, oven at lowest temp. I stick them in when I go to bed and in the morning they are chewy dry. Gus and Bear love them store them in a zip lock bag in the fridge.
I love that Gus picks his own veggies! Maybe this would be an idea for dogs who dig...put them to work digging up their own root vegetables! Don't potatoes grow underground, too?
Wow! Great idea about the sweet potatoes! But too afraid to leave it on overnight.. how long would you actually leave it on for during the day, and on what temperature?? Bake??
The only vegetable that Jack eats is lima beans. I am not planting those. Since tomatoes are really a fruit, the only vegetables I have in my garden are chives.
I haven't had much in some time since the area where I had them got overgrown. I think you might need to give them a year to grow and then pick some, but not all the shoots the next year. Once they come up they do grow fast so you have to watch them since you want to eat them young. They are very good snapped off when walking around and eaten raw. I love to be able to pick something and munch on a moning walk around the yard.
