Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello everyone! I'm new to the group- I am so thrilled to see so many Goldendoodle owners in my area. I checked through your discussions and didn't see anything about training, but I hope I'm not repeating stuff that's been covered.... when we got our Goldendoodle last Spring we wanted to take her to some puppy classes, but there were none that worked with my schedule. Ginger was really giving us a fit with chewing and play biting, and it was at that point I discovered a local trainer who would come out to us. Well, since then we have worked with Renee at Follow Me Dog Training for a while now, and I have been amazed at the results. I love the Dog Whisperer, and I feel like I found my own Cesar Millan in Richmond!

From the moment she came in the room she had complete control over Ginger- she definitely knows what she's doing. What I really appreciate about her approach though, is that she is able to be the "pack leader" with the dogs, but still loving and affectionate too. She is a true dog lover, and Ginger just adores her.

Now, at 10 months old, Ginger consistently knows Come, Sit, Down Off, Out, Bed, how to stay in place, and probably more I can't think of now. My favorite thing though, is how she walks with me on the leash. No more pulling, yanking, or wandering. She walks or runs right with me- it makes our walks so enjoyable.

Anyway, I don't want to sound like an ad- but you know how it is- when you find something that works so well for you, and you're happy with, you want to share it with others.

Renee gives free consultations, if it's something you've wanted to check out- one of the coolest things is she brings one of her dogs, Leinie, with her. He's amazing! I've never seen a dog that well trained before- he puts on quite a show. Ginger loves him too!

Here's her site if anyone wants to check it out:

Thanks everyone!

Thanx for the info, and WELCOME to the GRAD group. We cause quite a scene everywhere we go !! Hope to meet you soon !
Just throwing this out there, but I'll be done with training in less than 5 weeks. It sounds like Renee is really good, but I'm definitely going to throw my name in the hat too! That being said, look for Impawsible Pups starting in April. Also, look for Cody's picture in the logo. It's hard to miss!
Welcome to the group and thanks for the input. It is always good to get lots of perceptive no matter if it is a repeat or not (which it isn't by the way) I think we have chatted off handed in the comment section and we have had lots of different places thrown out there. I have always gone to All Dogs Play Skool and I like it there. I have been e-mailing a lot with Valerie and I think she is doing so much and learning a lot in her training in North Carolina. I look forward to when she is back and starting her own dog training business. She is a great asset to our group.
Hi Serena & Ginger! Welcome to our GRAD group!

I had spoken with Renee when Connor was about 6 months old, but I felt the electronic collar training was a little much for his personality. When looking for a trainer, I think one of the most important things is your comfort with their personality and methods. We have been working with Melody Martinez for beginner, intermediate and now advanced obedience and have been very happy with her upbeat, positive and effective approach. I know Melanie @ Holiday Pet Barn does good work as well as Kathy @ All Dog Play School. They all have different teaching methods and philosophies. When a dog owner finds a trainer they like and can easily incorporate their approach to training into their daily life, that is a winning combination! Glad you were able to find someone that's a good fit for you and Ginger! :-)
