Anyone else experience their puppy having a bad reaction to brushing gel. Our vet recommended that we start brushing Ace's teeth. Well, I just tried to and upon smelling the gel on the brush he began to sneeze and then he began to make some weird sort of wretching sound. He didn't even taste it, he just sniffed it. He then ate a couple of pieces of kibble and a dog treat and he's seems to be fine now. It's an all natural made in the USA brushing gel.

This puppy stuff (health wise)is kind of beginning to stress me out. I am also seeing his third eye lid. I've actually seen it for a while now, but never really knew what it was until I did some research this morning. Sometimes it's red, sometimes it's not. He is going to the vet later today for a nail clipping and while there I will ask them to look at his eyes and mention the brushing gel incident.

I am so glad to hear it's not just me, not glad that we are having issues though, :-). I grew up with dogs all of my life. We raised and bred Pekingese and I do not remember any of this anxiety or these kinds of issues. My vet has examined Ace twice now and has not mentioned any issue with his eyes however, it is really noticeable to me especially when it's red. When we first got him, he has some eye crusties and my breeder said her vet told her it's from using tap water and to use filtered water for his drinking water. We use filtered water here. The crusties are not as bad as when he first came, but I do have to clean his eyes every day as there is a little bit of crust there. I just assumed it was normal dog crust. But now that I've discovered 3rd eyelid, I'm not so sure. I also noticed droopiness, I just thought it was just kind of his look. STRESS!!! :-(

Here are some pics of his eyes.

Wrigley's looks similar to Ace's. It's hard to believe that's normal.
That's exactly what I said Ace looks like, a basset hound with his droopy eyes, LOL!!!!! So I just came from the vet and she said his eyes look normal. She said it is normal for the third lid to show but if it's bulging or oozing then there's a problem, but she said Ace's eyes look normal. I guess our puppies are fine. Uggghhhh, I swear I was not this stressed out with my kids. As for our toothpaste issue, they gave me a chicken flavored paste to try.
thanks for the tip. :-)

This is extremely common in springer spaniels.  No big deal at all.  When Gordie's eyes get red, I use over the counter human eye drops w/o preservatives to lubricate his eyes.  Before you do this though, you might want to check with your vet to make sure the eye doesn't have an infection.

Thanks so much!! :-) Whew!
