Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Samantha had 2 UtIs, 1 in November and again in February. When I took her to the vet for her back issue on Monday I had another urinalysis done. The vet feels there may be a link between her kidney infection and the back problem she is having. She still does that Thumper imitation when touching any part of her back lower than her front shoulders. She has no problem running, walking up steps or jumping on the bed and sofa. She is taking rimadyl for that.
The lab results are:
pH - high
Protein - high
Blood - high
wbc - high
rbc - high
bacteria, crystals, glucose, keyton, bilirubin are all negative
She is on 2 weeks of clavomax and cranberry pills, then another urinalysis. He believes is is now a kidney infection. Needless to say I am beside myself and feeling guilty. I should have brought her back last month when we got home from Florida. Since guilt won't help I am concentrating on what to do to help her.
They are eating Wellness Simple Turkey and Potato. Should she be eating a kibble lower in protein?
Is there something else I can do help her? thanks for any input!!

Adrienne, an MRI is done under general anesthetic and is pretty expensive. You may not want to take that step just yet.
then I hope petplan will help pay for it. if not, we will be eating hot dogs for awhile - WOL! If the only way they can find out what is wrong with her back is an MRI then she will get one. While she's under, they can clear her teeth. I have to find out what is wrong with her back - she is not happy not being able to run around and play ball. Going to give her a few more days of bed rest but if she isn't any better then an MRI she will get.
JD's was done by an orthopedic surgeon, and if you are going to go to the expense of having it done, I would strongly recommend that you have it done by a specialist as well.
you know I will. My vet has no problem sending us to a specialist - one of the reasons I really like him - he truly loves what he does and not in it for the money.
I don't understand. If the bacteria is negative, there is no infection. I would get a second opinion. This just doesn't make sense to me. Hope you get some answers. BTW, guilt is not one of the answers. You will just make your dog feel bad for you because they are so intuitive and I'm sure you want your dog to be happy.
I posted the results from a copy of them from the lab. So if there is no bacteria what could be causing the high results?
I can't change what's in the past , I can only make sure I get to the bottom of this and help her get healthy again! She shows no pain , she just pees a lot and is obviously uncomfortable when being touched from her shoulders down. Mystery.
they tried to stick her bladder and they couldn't get it. I will have them try again. I was able to get a sample when we went outside - it doesn't take long for her to have to pee.
Adrianne,
Just a thought, where is her drinking water coming from? Perhaps the ph factor in the tap water is too high and has
an affect on her. I have lived in different cities where the ph was higher than others, perhaps a filter would help if that is
the case. (This may seem too simple, but we used to keep tropical fish and always had to test the water for them).
No answers - Just sorry to hear Sammie isn't 100%. Hope she's back to her old self soon!! Lots of well wishes for you both.
Thanks Dana!
