Hi all! Teddy got into chicken bones the other night! Silly me, I left my plate on the counter and he, of course, snatched 2 thigh bones and gobbled them up before I realized what was happening. I didn't see how they went down (ie., chewed or engulfed whole) but there were no issues with choking/gagging, etc. I got online right away to see what to do and everything I read said to give him some bread- which I did- and watch him carefully over the next couple of days. This happened on Monday night- so far, he has been totally normal and I've been checking his stool for any bone remnants- nothing so far. I've read that if I don't see the bones pass that I should contact my vet as they may be lodged in the intestinal tract, etc. Has this happened to anyone before and do you have any advice? Thank you!

My dog, Lexi, got into a plate of chicken wing bones. The vet told us that generally speaking the acid in a dog's stomach will break down even cooked chicken bones. You just need to watch carefully for a few days, make sure he continues to poop properly. No signs of pain or distress. He's probably fine. They are probably gone already. For whatever it is worth, you won't necessarily see the bones. Not to gross you out ;-), but what I did was squish the poop in the bag a little, and I felt little hard pieces in there.

Thanks, Shari! Nothing grosses me out as a dog mom anymore! I've been doing the same thing- ha!

My Guinness got into my empty bag of KFC with wing bones.  Thank goodness there were no bad effects and it was a "wake up call" for me.

No experience with this Nicole, but I hope Teddy has no issues related to his thievery!  That little stinker!

Haha- he is SUCH a stinker! The very next night he stole a rind of cheese off the counter- lucky we caught him in time. Note
