Gooey eyes

Yankee had some white goo in his left eye a couple of days ago but now it has turned into greenish goo. I am thinking eye infection but I was wondering if there are any natural solutions for this type of problem. I am washing with warm cloth especially in the morning when his eyelashes are all glued together.

Maybe if I had used something while it was still white goo, I could have prevented it from getting worse.

Linda, My Murphy just had this last week. I rinsed with bottled water to clean the goop out several times a day and also had read about apple cider vinegar applied to the back of the neck, ( 1 TBL) so I tried that and the next day it started to clear up considerably.
I did have to take him in for an ear infection and mentioned the eye, and the vet had me use some eye drops, but it was well on it's way to being much better before I used the drops. I use ACV in his food (1 tsp) everyday for the tear stains and black goops and it has helped tremendously with that.

Linda, do the whites of his eyes look pink or red?

Uhhhhhhhhh, hard to say, bottom is red, upper part is pink?

They can get conjunctivitis (pink eye)-it's pretty common. I understand they can even get it from people, it's so contagious. I heard of one doodle who got it from a neighbor's kid. The "glued together' thing is what makes me think it might be that.

Can kids get it from Yankee????

So does this mean I have to go to the vet?

I would. I just think it's better to be on the safe side if it's an eye infection or pink eye.
I think it's possible that if dogs can get it from kids, kids can get it from dogs. But I don't know for sure.

I'd take him to the vet. Not sure but I think if it's green, it's probably an infection. I didn't know it could pass from dog to person. But I got conjunctivitis from a student a few years ago. My doctor told me it's very contagious before you've been on antibiotics for 24 hrs.
