When Sully was about 4-5 months old, he would literally scream with pain when you touched him. Our vet was on vacation, so he saw her partner who diagnosed him with Panosteitis and gave him tramadol. Scared the heck out of me and turns out (thank goodness) Tank had rolled him down the hill in the backyard one too many time (our regular vet got back from vacation). The little fellow was extremely sore from head to toe. After a week to 10 days, he was OK. From my experience it's for moderate to severe pain (which Sully had at the time) but none of them have had it since that time.
I would second F's question, why does he need pain meds?
Tramadol is a good pain medication for dogs when there is a need for one.
Good. I'd just let him rest and see if he's OK. He may be sore for a couple of days. I would try to keep playtime a little less energetic.
Our Savannah is on Tramadol........I actually like Tramadol because it is not a barbiturate and there is no withdrawal. Savannah is on it for her bladder stones. I have taken it before too and it really does work well :)
Like I said, Savannah takes this medication. We only give it to her when she is in pain due to the bladder stones.
