Just thought I'd share a recent experience at our vet:

Hanna was due last month for her Rabies shot (3yr) and her Distemper combo (3 yr).  We also decided to give her the Lepto vaccine as she camps with us and swims in lakes.

We voiced our concern to the vet that last time she had all her shots (3 years ago) it did a major number on her stomach and digestive system.

The vet suggested that we could "Pre-Treat" Hanna before we gave her the shots.  I asked what that meant, and they would give Hanna a shot of liquid benedryl, wait 15 minutes, and then gave her the rabies shot.  We went back a week later and did the same for the Distemper combo and 2 weeks later for the Lepto.  I cant say for sure if it was just spreading out the shots over 3-4 weeks that did the trick or if it was definitely because of the "pre-treatment", but happy to report that Hanna has had no adverse stomach or digestive issues!!!

Down side was that she got stuck with more needles, but it was great that she did not have any side effects either !!!

Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience?

I can’t speak to the effects of the Benedryl but any time you can spread the shots out, it’s a good thing. We don’t give repeated vaccinations to our dogs except for the required rabies, but instead check titers. Happy Hanna did well with the regimen you followed this time.

Thanks for letting us know what was done to help Hanna. I’m so glad it worked for her.

Josie was 2 or 3 when she had an allergic reaction to the bordotella vaccine.  We skipped a year then they did the same thing they did for you and she hasn't had a problem since.  Glad it worked for you as well.
