Debb, one of the things that has made grooming easier for us is the "when and where" of it. I sit on the floor in front of a TV program about 9 PM. By then, the dogs are ready to just crash and are happy to lie on the floor next to me. Some nights, I can only comb one side -- these big boys are not easy to turn over!
If Lucy becomes agitated just by seeing your grooming tools, you may have to reintroduce her to them -- for at least one week, take out the combs and brushes and give her a treat. No grooming, just treating. Soon she view the tools differently.
Let us know how this goes.

Hi Sue. We are a group of doodle owners with doods from Labradoodledoo but you are welcome.  You might also check out Portland Area and Welove Doodles-NW Doodle groups as they are area specific.  Debb, a member of this group who lives in Portland could guide you as well.  Aren't the dogs great?

Hi I just found Doodle Kisses yesterday. I have been looking for anyone who has Doodles in the Portland area. We just got a Australian Labradoodle Med size about 7 weeks ago. He is 5 month old and the best dog we have ever had. We are training at Pet smart and graduate in 2 weeks. I am in love with this breed

Hudson goes to PetSmart too. It is $49 and I also get $5 coupons via email.

Oh, btw, I ALWAYS take plenty of pictures and written instructions to the groomer, but there's always at least 1 thing that ends up bothering me. I'm really particular though. I mean, REALLY particular. I'll be the first to admit it.

Sandi, you're lucky Brewster allows combing. As much as Lucy allows me to do in the line of grooming, brushing and combing is our one battle. I actually muzzle her with I do her body, and have plenty of battle scars after attempting her head. The last groomer told me she was really good with brushing, which shocked me. Now I know I can take Lucy to the groomer between clippings to be brushed/combed out. And I'll never wait 3 months between clippings again. Petsmart, huh??

Hello all,  I found a few pictures of doodle faces on line that I've printed off and take to the groomer each time we visit.  This works very well, since before than Brewster always returned from the groomer looking like a Dandi Dinmont Terrier!!!  After lots of trial and error with Baggins (long haired Rottweiler) and groomers, we found that the local Petsmart worked the best for me (go figure?!?)  I do a lot of combing ( 4-5 days a week) between appointments, but the boys are professionally groomed every 8 weeks.

Hi Jeanne! Thanks for the welcome. When Sheeba is completely wet, her skin will how also. I don't like to have her shaved down & I only do this on with the onset of spring. Due to the fact we live on acreage and she loves to run in the tall grasses. When she comes back in I will spend hours brushing & pulling the grass burrs out of her coat. No, I haven't tried the CC brushes & was wondering about the LP brushes. What is the difference? I'd love to find a brush that works well on Sheeba.

Hi Becky Welcome. My Tura is  Lucy's littermate .  She has thin, fine and curly hair, when she is wet you can see her pink skin very well.  After growing it out a little and ending up with lots of mats and having her shaved (UGH)  we have settled in on having it short (1-1&1/2 inch)and we can manage pretty well.  We take her to the U-dog wash every 3 weeks or so as we have a hard time keeping her white.(hardly ever) The groomer is about every 3 months.  I worry that she is a little cold with the short haircut, but is pretty mat free.  Dolly (not a labradoodledoo dog) has thick wavy hair that mats a lot.  She looks great with it long but I think we will have to go short on her as well.  We tried going from 6 inches to 3 but I ended up shaving her belly because there were so many mats.  Have any of you tried the Chris Christensen bushes? My dogs run when they see the Les Pooches brush coming...

Thanks, Becky. I know what you mean about 'baboon face'. I have to admit I prefer that look to '2 pee holes in the snow' eyes, though.
