Molly was such a good girl! My youngest daughter and her little friends found a little shih tzu wondering down the middle of our street yesterday. They spent the evening going door to door searching for its owner. Molly was as gentle as a lamb with the older dog.Such a nice surprise as "gentle" is not Mollys middle name.
Jeanne, have you explained to Tura that she needs to be an active, participating member of her Health Care Team? I'm sure that if she just understood. . I have given up and returned Mollys raw hide "bones" to her. After she snuck under my bed and chewed a hole in my bed skirt last week.
I saw Maggie [big sister] again this week [and her Mom]. Sandys new little girl is growing so fast! She is a perfect, sweet and happy baby. Sandy and her family are a wonderful match for her!

Hi There. Tura got her appliance removed and as expected is still chewing up the place. After 3 weeks with no fleece toys she is making quick work of them. Her left canine is in perfect place but the right is still not quite right so she is supposed to be chewing on rubber balls but shows little interest in that. (Even after I EXPLAINED to her that it is doctors orders) She is what we call a non compliant patient....
We have signed up for a Intermediate Obedience class to get back on track so hopefully she will calm down a bit. Also, she is enrolled in something called Pup'prentice which is a pre-therapy training thing for puppies. We meet once a month and then go on field trips to practice. If things go well, the pups are prepared to take the Delta Society test around age 1. But I have no expectations that it will go that easily. Even if she doesn't make it, all the early training is bound to pay off. Hope you are all well. Do you think it will ever stop raining?????

Hi everyone... boy its been quiet here lately. I've been busy painting and decorating the master bedroom and bath. Funny, we've been here about 15 yrs. and I've redecorated and repainted the kitchen and family rooms several times but have never done anything with the master bed and bath till now. What a difference... so much more inviting and comfortable now.

Lucy's last class is tonight. I've gone over all the lessons today and Lucy has them all down pat. I hope-hope-hope she does the same good work tonight in the store. Tim has a business dinner so will miss the class, which I think will be a real bonus for Lucy's performance. No distractions from Pop.

Challenges this week have been JUMPING UP... as usual. We're trying to implement giving attention only when she's sitting quietly, and we have a special plush toy we give her only when someone comes in the front door to keep her attention on something other than jumping up on the visitor. The other problem area is Lucy's getting into the bird's cage aprons/bottoms for scraps. Tim plans on devising an acrylic barrier to put along the bottom of the cages to prevent her from getting into them. I think that will be the only good solution, as its so self rewarding as it is now. No amount of corrections deter her.

Wish us luck on graduation tonight!

Just curious... has Molly or Tura lost interest in their mid-day meal? Lucy's interest is waning, which surprises me. She's so food motivated I never thought the day would come when she wouldn't finish a meal.

Class tonight. We missed last week's due to the trainer being sick. So 2 left including tonight. Lucy can shake now, and SPEAK on command. I think I already may have mentioned that. Always working on STAYS with the 3 D's (distractions, duration and distance). She goes to her mat and lies down on command. She is so bright its a challenge staying one step ahead of her.

We went for our afternoon walk today donned in our rain jackets. 1st time for Lucy wearing a rain jacket. I felt silly putting it on her, but it really did a good job of keeping her dry. She liked wearing it too. Thought I should put it to some use before she grows out of it. I didn't check her weight today... didn't make it that direction during our walk, but will in the next couple days.

Wow Nancy, I can't even imagine having Lucy go out a doggie door in this wet weather. I have a hard enough time trying to keep the floors clean, even WITH cleaning and drying Lucy's feet each time she comes back in. How do you manage it? Its great you have a doggie companion for Molly. My husband and I are the only 2 here to entertain Lucy. She has her routine though, throughout the day... walk-nap-eat-play-nap-train-eat-play-nap-walk... and on it goes. She knows the routine and usually, on the weekends when Tim is home, she ends up exhausted from too few naps and too much activity.

Hey Jeanne -- how is Tura after having her retainer off?

Molly has moved herself upstairs at night to sleep with the girls. They have to keep their rooms picked up better so she doesn't chew. She follows Mac out the doggie door in the mornings without a hitch so it is a win, win for me. The two dogs have been fixated on the same stuffed animal for a week now. It's hilarious to watch them hunt, hide and guard it from each other all day long. They wear each other out!

Good luck tomorrow, Jeanne... I hope you don't think ALL that behavior will disappear once Tura gets her retainer off (I say, as I pull a fleece sock out of Lucy's mouth :-)

So here's what happens when you take all your puppy's toys away per DDS orders. First you eat your fleece pad bed. Then you eat bath rug that Mom substituted for the bed. Then you chew up the towels that Mom put down. Also, the kitchen oven mitts and anything you can find in the laundry room.... Wednesday can't get here fast enough for me....

Bully sticks are entirely digestible and don't make a mess, and dogs really love them. They can, however, cause loose stools if too many are eaten in a short time frame. Lucy does fine with just a couple a week. I get the ODORLESS bully sticks in bulk from bestbullysticks.com.

Antlers are not messy at all and don't cause loose stools. They are very hard, though, and some dogs may not find them very interesting.

We've given Nylabones a try and I wasn't impressed at all. Those are some gummy, messy chew toys. Lucy LOVES rawhide, but as Angie has previously pointed out, they're not digestible, and keeping Lucy from tearing off chunks and eating them is close to impossible. I stuff Kong toys and balls made specifically for stuffing, with hard dog biscuits. Lucy will work at getting the biscuit out for days.

I haven't tried beef bones and joints. I think those would be very messy though.

Are there any edible chewys around that don't make a gummy sticky mess around the face?
