Molly can crate 8 hrs now, but remember that with her cast she has had more practice than Tura. She has been a MANIAC the last few days bouncing from person to person stirring up trouble just like a naughty child. Pulling a pencil out of one childs hand then tearing around the corner to stick her nose into another unlucky nappers mouth. She made a record Bathroom Tissue Run-pull all the way up the 20 step stairway without tearing a single square. If I had just half of the endorphines her silly brain must produce.......

Well the office garbage can is back up. No explanation needed there. Also, I am wondering. How long does Molly and Lucy go at night without having to go out? Tura lasts 7 hours tops , then goes out to pee and poop. Some nights only 5 hours. We go to bed around 10 and I would love to get to 6am......
Also, in the I've created a monster department, I used to let her sleep on the bed after she got up at 3 or 4 or 5am but I figured out she might be manipulating me a little (ya think?) so now its back to the crate where she barks and whines until we get up at 630ish.
Also, she grabbed a skein of yarn I was using the other day and ran and I used my angry voice on her and she stopped and dropped it, surprised I think with my tone. Most of the time I try to get her to come for a treat or just go patiently to her and say calmly "drop it" and give her the I'm serious look and she does. The worst is when she thinks its a game and bows and plays and runs.....Tell me your stories. Also, how are the kittens?

Debb, how is momma cat and her kittens? Have you heard anything from the rescue people?

Sounds like a good plan. Hopefully Mama cat is nice and adoptable too. We have two cats and they were both rescues. One we found around our house. She was only about 6 months at the time and in heat. She is a Siamese/Calico mix, really pretty but kind of "snooty". She has that Siamese meow and talk- you should have heard it when she was in heat! Although they don't like to spay cats (or dogs) in heat, I told the vet he had to because I couldn't take it anymore. She was keeping me up all night with her loud howling! The other one we got from the Humane Society. She is just a plain black cat- no beauty, but she is as sweet as ever. She was pregnant when they rescued her and she had kittens while in foster care.

I hope that rescue group will come out and help you. Good luck!

Angie,

I've sent off an email to a no-kill cat rescue organization in the local area. Hopefully they can offer assistance. From all I've read, they say you should keep the momma cat and kittens together. The kittens I could probably catch, but the momma cat might be a different story.

Over the years I rescued many adult stray cats and full litters of kittens and either found them good homes or taken them to the humane society. I just am not in a situation to do that again. I really hope if this organizatoin can come out that they're still here when they come. Last year the momma moved the litter often. About the time I decided to do something the litter was gone.

Sounds like all of your puppies are doing great! I've been enjoying your updated pictures!

Debb- I think your daughter is right. I would take all of them to a shelter/rescue group. That way they can deal with the nursing issue. Plus the sooner the kittens start getting handled, the more adoptable they will be. You might try looking for a no kill cat rescue group from your area on Petfinder. Maybe they would even come out and get them for you. If there are any little girl kittens in there, they'll be populating your neighborhood in just a few months. :)

That's good news about Molly! What a relief that must be.

Lucy's latest thing (just started this morning) is pulling stuff off the kitchen counters when no one is in the kitchen. So she's doing it on the sly. I found her with both a dish towel and a pot holder, sitting on her cushion bed gnawing away on them. Then, later I heard a crash in the kitchen and she had pulled the poop bag rolls off the counter along with some recipes I need to file. Looks like the counters need to be well cleared from now on. Good incentive to keep things clean, anyway!

One thing I've found that makes it easy to get things away from Lucy is to run into the kitchen and call, 'Lucy, HERE!'. She drops whatever she has and comes running. I aways have a treat ready, and she knows it. Then I can go get the item/s she's dropped. Just wondering, when will this behavior of grabbing any and every thing end? Even outside she grabs small twigs, dirt clumps (out of the planters), leaves, just about anything that is loose out there. Should I just allow her to eat that stuff? I just can't imagine not allowing her out in the backyard ever on her own because I have to watch her like a hawk.

On another note, I saw a litter of kittens out in the backyard today with the momma. This same momma cat was in the neighborhood last year with a litter of kittens. Its obvious to me they're all strays. My daughter told me today that its my civic duty to go take those kittens to the humane society, because they'll either die a violent death OR grow to proliferate more strays. Okay, so lets assume I could catch the kittens. The problem is I can't tell how old they are. They are still nursing (I stood just a few feet away from the kittens while they were nursing), and they may not be old enough to eat solid food. If I wait, the mother may move them and it could be weeks before I see them again (and THEN they'll be too fast for me to catch). What do you all think? Should I chance it and take them in now? This whole situation just makes me sick...

Tura is cute and wonderful! She just oozes personality. Hope the neighborhood dogs aren't calling her "brace face". Does she require soft food while she is wearing her appliance? Mollys new trick is to pull socks from the kids closet laundry baskets and drag them to a neat pile under the back yard trampoline. She is not chewing them just.. just saving them for a rainy day? She is up and running again with only an occ tiny limp.

I think the plastic is cemented in somehow. He said the hardest part of the whole process is getting it back out. We went to the dentist today and he said the teeth are moving well and we may get it out a couple of weeks early. Yea! Oh and her weight was 38.5 today.
Tura's behavior has been similar to Lucy's. She grabs socks and runs. I have to channel on my inner Cesar to have her drop it before she chews it up. I was able to put the office garbage can on the floor and she hasn't got into that so maybe she isn't into paper.....
As soon as she gets the dental thing off, I'll look into starting another class for her. The agility center here has obedience classes and a pre agility class for puppies. That may really help with obedience.
Is Molly free? I hope she is OK.

Thank you, Jeanne for all the pics! Tura is adorable... and I can totally see how that appliance should work to move her teeth into position. It works on the same principle as those clear retainer-looking braces for people. My one question is, how does it stay in her mouth? Is it glued in some way?

I really see the resemblance to Lucy in Tura's short cut pic. That is, the way Lucy looks today with a more au naturale coat than the velvet coat in her latest freshly-groomed pics.

Tura has always been just a bit bigger than Lucy. If she's been keeping up with Lucy's weight, it does sound like that doc's scale was off.

How has Tura been behavior-wise? What are your current challenges? Here, its PAPER. Lucy will find it and eat it. Socks and underwear she has less access to, but if she can she'll take those too (and we've pulled things out of her throat that were well on their way to her stomach!). We watch her like a hawk, crate her for naps, keep the floors spotless and have gates up everywhere, and she STILL manages to find things she shouldn't have. Amazing!

Hey, thanks again..
