Nancy, its good to hear the specialist has a plan and I'm not sure if a spiral fracture is better or worse than 2 separate fractures. Did the ortho say anything more about those growth plates you mentioned? I'm sending healing thoughts Molly's way today. Let us know how she does Nancy.

I'm surprised Molly is 29lbs! Wasn't she just 16lbs a few weeks ago??? That's fantastic that she's put the weight on. Lucy was 34.5lbs just over a week ago. I haven't taken her in to get weighed since. Use to be I could weigh her by picking her up and standing on a scale. Not anymore! She's probably in the high 30's now. She stands 20" at the shoulder and can lay her head in my lap while I'm sitting (her standing). I like that. I don't have to bend over so far now, either, which my back sure appreciates :)

We start Lucy's intermediate classes tonight at Pet Smart. I hope this is the right decision. Lucy's last beginner class Monday went very well. She won one of the competition/games the trainer held with being the best dog to walk on lead. She got a greenie for that...lol.. She did well in the other games too, but distractions got the better of her in the end. Her DOWNS are an iffy proposition these days too. She'll usually do them but I have to stare her down for about half a minute before she does them. I can stand on her lead and she'll stuffbornly resist it for about the same amount of time it would take for her to do on her own. So I give up on that. I just stare until she goes down.

I'll report back on how class goes...

Debb, I have watched Lucys video 5 or 6 times! She is so sweet and cute!

Thank you aunt Jeanne and aunt Debb! Sympathy feels pretty good. Molly goes in for surg this morning. The orthopedist decided that rather than two fractures, Mollys leg has one long spiral fx. While they have her under they are going to spay her as well. She will require a sedative for a few days to keep her down. The vet suggested we do both so she can recover from both now. My girls sre hoping for a bright pink cast. It has been interesting to watch Mack the maltese dote over Molly. When she is especially needy or uncomfortable he stays with her in the kennel and grooms or cuddles in with her. We now have a xxl 48" kennel for Molly since she will be confined for some time except for carry out potty breaks. How much do the sisters weigh now? Molly weighed in @ 29lbs yesterday.

I meant to add too, Molly is adorable! I love her tight curls. Makes me wonder if Lucy has curls like that underneath all her hair. I can feel them close to her skin if I dig down deep. Thanks for posting the pics..

Oh, poor Molly! I'm so sorry to hear of her accident. I worry about those kinds of things happening around our house. Lucy crashes into things all the time in her exuberance. And she slips constantly on the hardwood floors no matter how short I keep her toe/foot hair and how many throw rugs I have strewn around the floor.

I don't know what a green stick fracture is...oh wait, I just googled it and know now. How difficult for both you and Molly...

My thoughts are with both and here's hoping the specialist comes up with a brilliant idea to make the recover process an easy one.

Oh Nancy I am so sorry. Poor baby. These little pups just tear around so much and crash into things all the time. It's amazing it doesn't happen more often. I was going to send you a note about how cute the pictures are and life throws you a curve ball. My son jumped off a swing as a little boy and landed on his hands, had both green stick fractures and recovered OK from it, but I could tell him what to do and he understood. This will a LOT more challenging. I hope the specialist can give you good news.

Poor Molly. She fractured her right rear femur in two areas. They are green sticks. One, possibly involving a growth plate which means long term growth and develpment issues. She had been chasing our maltese thru the house and BOOM she started screaming. None of us saw what happened but I suspect that she dove onto my bed and slipped on a very slippery duvet crashing off the other side of the bed. For now she is home on pain meds and muscle relaxers. She must be kenneled at all times. We carry her outside to potty. An orthopedic specialist is deciding where to go from here.

Here are some pictures of Molly! Half way thru the morning she managed to sneak into one of my kids rooms and scarf down a bag of Hot Cheetos note pnk tinge to face and nose.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but Sandi has a new litter of puppies, born March 30th... minis, I think, from Zorro and Delta. Here's a link to the puppy page: Oh, p.s., Lucy lost a canine tooth today :)

So they really DO have braces for dogs! That's fabulous! The price tag is about the equivalent of human braces though (or at least the price braces use to be), And no chewing or playing with other dogs would be tough. I don't envy you, Jeanne.

We've been finding Lucy's teeth lately. They just fall out of her mouth and onto the ground. No canines yet, though.

Lucy is doing just fine. We've had the stairs blocked off to her so she won't run up and down them, but last night she slipped by the blockade and ran up to see me in the bedroom, then decided to get the 'zoomies', and ran in and out of the bedroom and up and down the stairs, all at lightening fast speeds. If anything could tear her open, that would be the activity. But she was fine. So she must be back to about normal now. Over the weekend we took her for a short walk through a park and to Pet Smart. Ran into a trainer there who did a short clicker session with Lucy for her jumping up. Just that one little session has had a lasting impact. I'm trying to keep clickers and treats handy whenever I think she's prone to jumping up just to keep it going. Basically, you ignore the dog when its jumping.. don't even look at it, then when it's bottom hits the floor you click (keep the clicker hidden or behind your back) and treat. No words necessary. Oh, and try not to let the puppy out of it's crate when its excited to see you. Wait till it calms down before opening the door. Same for coming home when the dog is out. No words, no touch, no eye contact, basically, until it calms down.

Tonight we're making up Lucy's last missed puppy class. Then I'm considering enrolling her in an intermediate class at Pet Smart with the trainer I met there. The class starts Thursday. Lucy's current trainer is good, but the facility always gives me a headache from the disinfectant they douse the place with just before we arrive. Pet Smart is cheaper too.

Oh, Jeanne, I had bathed Lucy the day I shot that video. I have a relatively inexpensive high-velocity, warm-air pet blower I use on her that blows the moisture right off the hair. It give her a professional fuzzy look for about a day then she's right back to her normal looking self. I love that the dryer makes quick work of drying her. It only takes about 5 minutes.
