Hello all! I finally bit the bullet and stopped lurking and joined Doodlekisses! Brewster is from the Ryobi/Fozzy breeding, born October 2008. He was initially called Dodge. He is now the big boy I…Continue

Kirstin, that's funny we were both thinking the same thing (incorrectly)! It sounds like Rooney's fears probably stem from lack of early sound socialization, although living at Sandi's house you'd think would be a great opportunity for that kind of thing. Maybe he lived at the guardian family's home rather than Sandi's and wasn't exposed to the same chaos... lol.. I can tell you fear is something I wish Oscar had a little more of at times. He doesn't always think about consequences of his actions, how he could get hurt, and often throws himself into situations that other dogs would be wary of. Lucy I think has a healthy amount of fear. She's cautious where Oscar isn't. Something I used with both Lucy and Oscar when they were very young was a 'sound socialization' CD. In the beginning, I'd set the volume to just barely audible. Each day I increased the volume just a tiny bit. It was a collection of all kinds of noises, like machinery, trucks, thunder, babies crying, dogs barking, appliances running, motorcycles, sirens, etc. I think it helped a lot in accustoming the dogs to all kinds of noises. Its something you may want to consider trying with Rooney. It couldn't hurt.
Thanks for the input. Yes, Debb, I did put a deposit down with the other breeder. But it is relatively small, and I don't want that to be the deciding factor. The other puppies are due in the next week, so I think I will just wait and see what happens with them. I am number 6 on the list, and although small litters are unusual, it could happen.
I really appreciated that Brewster (Ryobi/Fozzy) was social at an early age. I was able to take him to restaurants at 6 months and he would just settle down. Also, I own a store and he was very easy to take to work. Therefore, I'm concerned about Kristin's comment that Rooney is afraid of just about everything....
Thanks again for your help and I'll keep everyone informed about my decision.
Hi Sandi, I'm very sorry for your loss. I, too, had noticed Sandi's announcement a week or so ago. Her litter will be very mellow, if previous pups from the Sputnik/Monty pairing are any indication of temperament. Oscar has those same parents and he's got the coolest personality. Loves to play (and is a bit possessive of toys) but is super mellow and loving/affectionate. He really rolls with the punches and isn't easily affected by changes in routine. Super, super easy to groom too. He will allow any kind of handling without a fuss. Have you already put a deposit down with your daughter's breeder?
I just noticed that Sandi has announced a litter of Sputnik/Monty puppies due in April. I lost my big, Rotttweiler , Baggins, early this year and Brewster is very lonely. I do have my name on the list for a labradoodle puppy from the same breeder my daughter's Buster is from. Spoiled by choice!
Congrats, Kristin! I was so happy to hear you have Rooney! He was my favorite of Sandi's pups this time around, and hopefully now I can follow his growing up through you! I swear he looks exactly like Oscar looked when he was a pup... same ears, coloring and eyes. They have the same father, Monty. I'll be excited to hear what Rooney's temperament is like as he matures. We think Oscar is the coolest little guy... here's a pic of Oscar at about Rooney's age:
P.S. I love the name that you chose!
Congratulations! He is SO adorable! I'm sure Delilah will come to love him very soon.
