Hey Nancy, if you're interested, and can make it, the Portland Area Doodles group has set up a doodle romp in Portland, 3/27, at Alpha Dog (1713 SE Grand Ave.) from noon to 2pm. Cost of admission is $1.

We'll be there. It would be great to meet you and Molly!

I have enjoyed keeping up with Lucy, Tura and Hudson over the past months.I have used several of your tips and suggestions with Molly as well. (Chai) Molly is 18 pounds this week. She is constantly on the move! She loves throwing her own toys and then retrieving them. She loves the outdoors in any kind of weather. With only slight hesitation she is willing to play with any size dog as long as it is not a barker. Barking sends her scooting back to her mommys for safety. We spend as much time @ two nearby dog parks where Molly can wear herself out with the other dogs. She especially loves a lovely english bulldog named Lilly who enjoys throwing Molly to the ground and sitting on her. Molly lays there gasping for breath, huge smile on her face, tail thumping the ground...

Angie, Nancy Peterson has joined Doodle Kisses and she has a Ryobi puppy. I told her to check out our group.

Hi Jeanne, thanks for letting me know about the Comfy Cone. I hadn't realized they come in various sizes. Good to know. Lucy seems to be eating like a horse lately, as well. She's getting quite large, as I can see a difference in just a few days.

We stayed at The Ocean Lodge, and it was perfect. At the south end of town, nearer to Tolovana Park and much less crowded than closer in town. SurfSand Resort is another great pet friendly hotel, but its in mid-town and much more busy with more people.

We do have leash laws in Oregon but many people allow their dogs off leash. I'm pretty sure Lucy wouldn't run off, its just other dogs I'm leery of. We had a huge German Shepherd come charging Lucy on the beach (who was off leash) and he really scared Lucy. We stepped in and tried to protect her, but he was adamant. It really pissed us off that the owners didn't say a word (although they did put their dog on leash after the incident). Some day Lucy will be able to hold her own, but at 4 months I think its just too young to allow off leash.

I've heard of Rescue Remedy, but I've got to tell you, the ginger worked like a charm.

The doodle Lucy played with at puppy romp was a goldendoodle, and she hasn't been back, so I think she reached the 6 month mark some time ago (that's the cut off age for puppy romps at this facility). There were a couple other goldendoodles at yesterday's puppy romp, but they were new and quite shy (like Lucy in the beginning). One looked like a medium, the other a miniature. Doodles just seem to have a different energy and temperament than other dogs. They like actually romping and playing, as opposed to wrestling and biting/play fighting. Well, at least mine and few of the others that we know. Lucy hates to be bitten by other dogs, even in play. That's just not her style.

Tim has shoulder surgery tomorrow, so I'm hoping I have opportunities to get Lucy out for walks (he usually takes her for her early morning walk, me for her afternoon walk). She really needs plenty of exercise every day. Tim thinks he will be up and back to work by Thursday. I kind of doubt it, although he's surprised me plenty in the past with how fast he recovers after surgeries. Me, I need a couple weeks at least to recover (with lots of rest) from any kind of surgery. We shall see...

You really lucked out at the beach, having such nice weather....What hotel did you stay at? I am collecting notes for pet friendly places...plus Cannon Beach is one of my favorite spots.
FYI, I came across a discussion about dogs who get car sick and something called "Rescue Remedy" was suggested by someone who had success with it.
Lucy looked so happy at the beach. Someday you'll be able to let her go off leash. Or maybe its not allowed...
The other doodle at the puppy romp looked about Lucy's age, is that right?
As far as the cone goes, I used Comfy Cone. Its soft so when they come charging at you, you don't end up bruised. I used a medium size and it worked fine for her. The down side is that its solid black and they can't see very well but it was only for a few days so worth it. I started short walks day 3 because they need their exercise. And she has started eating like a horse. She will eat a cup or more 3 times a day. I think it is a growth spurt or she needs extra calories to heal....

I loaded the videos on my page. It will give you a great idea of the amazing weather we had the entire time we were there. We had an incredible beach-front room with a lawn area just outside our patio door for doggie potty runs. It was just perfect!

We're back from the beach... whew, are we tired! The 1-1/2 hr trip there was quite eventful... Lucy got sick several times from all the twists and turns in the road. We were all glad to finally arrive. We must have had close to a hundred people stop and ask us what kind of dog Lucy was, due to her long, fleecy hair. And of course, she's so darned cute! Lucy loved all the attention and loved running on the beach. No, we didn't allow her off-leash, but we did have a 26' long flexi leash that allowed her some freedom. She especially liked running circles around us, wrapping us up in the long leash! We had exceptionally beautiful weather for the Oregon coast in early March. Gorgeous sunny skies with not a hint of a breeze and temps in the low 60's. We couldn't have planned a better weekend. We must have gone for a dozen walks.

On the trip home we bought some ginger root and cut it into pieces and let Lucy munch on it. She didn't have a single accident (getting sick) on the way home. Ginger really works! We made it home in time for puppy romp, but Lucy only had enough juice left in her for about 15 minutes of romping, then she was pooped! So we left early. I took a couple videos, but they're basically of Lucy and Tim just standing on the beach... not a lot of action. I'll try to upload them soon..

Good to hear Tura is doing well! I've got Lucy scheduled for her spay April 7th (or thereabouts). What kind of soft cone did you use, Jeanne? I've seen a couple different brands and one of them gets poor reviews due to it being rather narrow and ineffective. I can imagine how difficult it is keeping Tura quiet. Not sure how we'll tackle that problem. Lots of crate time I'm afraid. She definitely requires exercise every day and when she doesn't get it she's a little Lucifer! Boy what a difference in her temperament when she gets it though. I just returned from a long walk (where we dropped in to visit her vet's office.. and got a cookie, and stopped into a pet store) and now she's sleeping at my feet. I love that.

Puppy class tomorrow night. We need to pack a bunch of homework (working on sits WITH releases) in before then. Then we're off to the coast Friday with Lucy... her first beach experience! Can't wait!

Those pictures are so funny and so cute at the same time. Don't worry, in a few days she'll look almost like she did before.
Tura has the dreaded cone off and has lots of energy, so keeping her "quiet" as instructed is quite a challenge. We are working hard to prepare for the grandchildren's visit in 2 weeks and hoping she won't jump or bite (too much).
No bath for 3 weeks post op so when she can, we will probably get her hair cut short as it is long and straight/wavy and gets a little matted in places. I think she'll be Hudson's twin when she grows up.
